Applying older cooling components to a new build

I was last here in 2008 when I was getting advice for what is now my current system. (Old 2008 thread: New Build .) The system has been running very well since then, but I am now looking to do a deep upgrade to get some more substantial performance. However, some of the more basic parts that I have ...

Re: 4K Graphics Card

There is always going to be something better on the horizon, but I'm at least looking for a starting point! A lot of the articles on 4k graphics seem to primarily focus on gaming, but I'm a bit more interested in quiet than power. Which is why I'm here. This article reviews a few cards under more mo...

4K Graphics Card

It's been a while since I've looked into graphics cards, but recently I've been intrigued by 4K resolution (3840x2160) screens, and wanted to see what sort of options are available. Currently I do not have a 4K monitor or TV, but I am looking at purchasing a new video card soon, and would like to ha...

Unfortunately I haven't had much time to review this. It looks like the recommended cards so far have been the HD 4670, the HD 4770, and the HD 5750. There's this fanless version of the HD 4670: HSI Radeon HD 4670 . It looks like maybe PowerColor has a couple fanless options, but I can't tell for su...

I don't have it yet, but I plan on also getting a HP LP2475w monitor, which has a resolution of 1920x1200.

The power supply is the one part that wasn't obtained with the rest of the system when it was built.

Video Card Upgrade Suggestions

I'm looking for some suggestions of video cards. Currently I have an Asus EAH3450. It is fanless, and does a decent job, but I've seen some choppy video, and I'm considering upgrading from WinXP to Win7. What I'm looking for is a graphics card that is good for playing HD video (Blu-Ray and HD DVD), ...

Could you tell me more about this? What makes this drive quieter?

One thing I should mention is that I am concerned about is keeping everything sufficiently cool with a high ambient room temperature (up to ~32°C). And I'm planning on having this run 24/7, and it may go unmonitored for a long period of time, so I want to make sure there's plenty of room for temper...

New Build

Alright, I think I've pulled together what I need for my new build. Most of my choices were influenced by the components that were recommended in the reviews, and from scanning the this forum. I've tried to check to make sure everything will work together, but let me know what you think. I'm also in...

Heatsinks that fit on ABIT IP35 Pro in Antec Solo

I plan on getting an ABIT IP35 Pro motherboard and an Antec Solo case. I was also thinking of getting the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme for the CPU heatsink, but then I noticed posts by mkygod and WR304 in this thread figuring that the heatsink would not fit that configuration. So, does anybody hav...

All 6 headers on the IP35 Pro are BIOS/uGuru controllable and will work with any 3 or 4 pin fan (4 pin fans are backwards compatible with 3 pin headers and 4 pin headers are backwards compatible with 3 pin fans). Ah, thank you. That was something I didn't know. So in other words, I could get any fa...

ABIT IP35 Pro and fans

In building my new system, I'm planning on getting the ABIT IP35 Pro motherboard. I also plan on getting three fans: 120mm fan for the CPU heatsink, 120mm fan for the rear exhaust, and 92mm fan for the front intake. In choosing the fans I was simply going to go with ones that seemed to be recommende...

High room temperature concern

The temperature of the room my computer will be in could average to about 90°F (32°C) for a good portion of the day (like it did today). With this consistently high ambient temperature, will I have to consider anything differently when it comes to keeping my computer components safely cool, or is ...

Getting started on a new PC

I'm working on picking out parts for building a new desktop PC to replace an old, failing PC. I recently stumbled upon the idea of silent computing and this site, and I'd like to at least consider what I can do to make a quieter than usual PC. So let me try to list my thoughts by parts... Power Supp...
