Re: Silent mATX build?
I am now waiting for Prices on GTX 1060 to come down a bit in Germany. New graphics Card will likely be a MSI GTX 1060 Gaming (not X), however 330 € is to darn expensive IMO. Had some time today to do some testing on the system today (still with front panel removed, case is otherwise closed). System...

Re: Silent mATX build?
Sorry for the long silence guys, second child arriving, lots of work, first child sick... and so on, anyway I actually did some preliminary tests weeks ago ending up with 54 °C CPU temps under load and something like 75°C GPU. Still without the front panel though. I hope to have more time for that t...

Re: WD RED noise: new ones are louder?
I concur, but I am talking about 3-4 meters distance with the HDD in the case.quest_for_silence wrote:Kobold wrote:still above hearing threshold
Just a side note: any mechanical disk noise is above hearing threshold, at least at close distance.

Re: WD RED noise: new ones are louder?
Small update: The Samsung M9T seems somewhat less noisy concerning the airborne noise than the WD (without having the WD around) or at least at a less annoying frequency, still above hearing threshold. Will have to consider putting it into some case (suggestions?) and into a 3,5" slot.

Re: [Carbide 400Q vs] Define S Silent Gaming Build
As someone who just bought a Corsair Carbide 400Q I can attest that it should be definitely possible to build a silent case with that system. I did not have much chance to play around with it yet, but there are now two noise sources in this case, which I have to eliminate: The Noctua 140 mm fan at hi...

Re: WD RED noise: new ones are louder?
Hi, remounting what? The drive or the sticker? The drive makes the same noise whether held in hand or not, so it is not a vibration problem, it really might be the wooshing sound of the head over the spinning platters. As this thing is brand new, I will just send it back tomorrow and test sth. else,...

Re: WD RED noise: new ones are louder?
I just bought a WD RED WD20EFRX and it is F******G loud. It makes a wooshing sound at idle I can hear from several meters away. This is a joke. It sound like static noise. Extremely annoying. The computer is silent otherwise. I actually first thought it to be the CPU fun, but when I stopped it by ha...

Re: Silent mATX build?
Will also open a ticket with Asus. However, the Noctua really does not seem to start below 60 % in Ai Suite. Cannot test this in Bios, because it does not allow me to go below starting speed (how do I get rid of this "feature"?). Header is set to DC. What I also don't get why non of this software is...

Re: Silent mATX build?
Bios is now the newest one from Asus. Q-Fan crashes in the Bios with four fans installed :D Anyways, previously without the fan on the GPU for the Noctua: 67% starting (which seems way to much), for the Glidestream 24%, the Splistream I think 42% (800 rpm full). From the AI-Suite same results but wi...

Re: Silent mATX build?
The manual somewhat nebulously states that only the CPU-Fan Header is supported in FanXpert. Maybe, it is what Luca wrote, that this refers to the calibration procedure, then I could not care less, as long as I can configure fan speed curves for all fan headers. So I was asking whether you might ha...

Re: Silent mATX build?
A quick question regarding FanXpert: It seems that both for the Z170M-PLUS and H170M-Plus from Asus, that only the CPU-Fan is supported (according to manuals, e.g. http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/H170M-PLUS/E10763_H170M-PLUS_UM_WEB.pdf#page=30). As far as cases are concerned, how about the NXZT S340? It is 38 liters. While looking at this I also sta...

Re: Silent mATX build?
Hi, I've been looking around for some more MATX-cases. Some cheap options could be: - Thermaltake Versa H15 (http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00002583), should have ample ventilation and thus could be quiet. Would have to block top vent probably. Found only one "review": http://ww...

First of all, thanks again for all the contributions, expecially the very helpful and lengthy comments of CA_Steve, quest_for_silence and Abula. Ok, did some more reading on case options: - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv matx (https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Phanteks/Enthoo_Evolv/) , more traditional tower cooler layout, but still nice looking and large coolers. Re: Silent mATX build?
I've read a bit about cases here obviously and in some other places, but nothing was quite to my liking. The Silverstone Temjin TJ08-E seemed the closest match, but somehow did not quite convince me despite the SPCR award. The Silverstone KL 06 looks like a worthwhile alternative to the TJ-08E. Rea...

First of all, thanks for the feedback so far. Concerning the GPU I guess only high power Pascal parts will be released first, but still I guess I should wait. Happy to see there is so much love for the card. I also definitely concur that one fan with very minimal airflow should do the trick easily.

Hello Kyno, Thanks for your input :) I learned about the Nvidia card a little to late... but I probably also wanted sth. a little more powerful. Passively Cooled R9 270 by Powercolor
Hi everybody, since a few days Powercolor sells a passively cooled R9 270, see http://www.powercolor.com/de/products_features.asp?id=535. Could be interesting for some people. I ordered one to replace a MSI R5770 Hawk, to get rid of fan noise again (even though it is a quiet card at idle). I will pr...

Re: Powercolor passive 7850 announced
Would be rather interesting to see a review of that one. I had a passive 3870 SCS3 back in the day, which was quite a nice card. I attached a low profile 12 cm cooler onto it at low rotation speed, around 500 -800 rpm I guess, which was still totally inaudible but increasing cooling capacity quite t...
