Re: HDD Elastic Suspension... Show your pics!

2nd picture (sort of ) shows that not much foam is actually in contact with drives. Oh, I saw that the drives were not completely covered. That might actually become a problem. I was just wondering if you noticed any increase in temps from covering the area you covered. plus, with the open 5.25 bay...

Re: HDD Elastic Suspension... : The green (ghetto) way!

Ive tried to explain this in a few other threads, but don't think it made that much sense without pictures. It took far longer to take and post these pics, than it did to silence these old PATA drives with some leftover packing foam. Interesting concept, indeed. I wonder how the drives are doing in...

Re: TDP list for Intel chipsets

I see why they are really skimping out on motherboard heatsinks for a lot of boards now, they just barely need any dissipation. That's because the PCH is not really a "chipset" anymore, it's just the equivalent of the Southbridge of the days gone by. Since the Northbridge was "absorbed" into the CP...

I am only interested in knowing about the Intel CPU itself if the embedded GPU is not being used). While I can't really answer your question, as only probably Intel engineers know the answer to that one, here's an "educated guess": At least up to G45, and AFAIK, Intel IGPs didn't actually have an "...

Re: TDP list for Intel chipsets

As usual, this is all taken from Intel documentation, specifically here on pages 7 and 13 here on page 318 and here on page 264. Keep in mind, though, that current "chipsets" for anything Core-based (except for Socket 1366, obviously) are basically Southbridges, so power requirements have dropped li...

mLy!, check whiic's post from April on this very thread. It has a comprehensive breakdown of the Samsung FxEG line of HDDs. I personally haven't seen any reviews of the 1.5TB F3EG, so I can't say if it's a re-badged F2EG, a short-stroked 2TB F3EG or something in-between. Common sense and good engine...

The HD203WI is noticeably quieter at idle sitting on some foam on my desk when compared to the F1 1Tb drive I have in an external HDD cage. Admittedly the F1 is hard-mounted to the cage but there is a significant difference in noise level. Well, I think that is to be expected. The 1TB F1 is a 7200r...

I've had an HD203wi for a couple of weeks and idle noise seems slightly higher than the HD103UJ and HD103SJ drives. Twice the platters, according to whiic's scheme, so that is to be expected. None of the ten Samsung SATA drives I've used in the last 5 years have exhibited noise or reliability issue...

What about the 154UI, which is classified as a F2EG, but is a 1.5TB drive with 3x500GB platters? Yes, good point. That's either the "odd one out" or the new F3EG is only called "F3" because of that new tech Samsung has put in them... First impressions are that it is a bit noisier than my 154UI's. T...

Seems that you might have inside information. What's the difference between the F2EG and F3EG? That information has been public for a while now. Several reviewers have pointed out the differences since the launch. But I guess nobody really made a quick-and-dirty comparison table, so here it goes: F...

What sort of drive performance loss are people seeing after suspending their drives? I immediately noticed some hesitation/delay during boot. It's obvious the "floating" drives now have nothing to stablize them so any vibration must translate to the actuator inside. :) None of this is valid if your...

Re: How can i turn my mini-pc into a storage server?

Seeing as the mini-pc is about to get a lot of spare time, is much faster( 3.0Ghz X9100 dual-core mobile CPU), and is much greener, i was wondering whether i could use it as a media server. WHS *might* be a problem. W2K3 sometimes doesn't really like being installed on mobile hardware, which your m...

I don't think the PCIE lock is the only bios control that doesn't work.
