The Antec FAQ for the P182 says to face the fan towards the top of the case. I have the fan facing the bottom (as it would be in a normal case) and haven't had any problems and it's been very quiet. I think some people have floated the theory that putting the fan on top will cause problems in exhaus...

Are you sure about that adapter, Andy? To me it looks like that would put the fan in series with whatever else is connected to that particular line. If it's three fans it would end up splitting the voltage (not current... you can't really do that) in three. That would effectively run each fan ~4v, w...

The best I've found is my current Buffalo with DD-WRT firmware installed. For the most part it's fine, but after an extended uptime ( > ~60 days) trying to make changes to router settings can sometimes kill the web interface and require a restart. Other than that, I've never had a problem that I cou...

The kill-o-watt reports it as 15W, which is actually the apparent power (assuming it's got a power factor of 1). From the P3 Kill A Watt usage guide: The Watt/VA Key is a toggle function key. Press the Watt/VA key once to display Watt meter, then press key to display VA meter. The LCD will display ...

Yate Loon makes their D12S(H,M,L) fans in a variety with blue LEDs. I can't speak to their performance, though.

Here's an update. Installed an HR-01 Plus with a Nexus 120 PWM fan. I'm not very impressed right now, but ambient is a bit above 25C, and there's still time for the AS5 to do it's magic. I'm going to mess around with the fan speeds a bit and hopefully find a sweet spot. Is a 4-5C difference in core1...

If it's an annoying buzzing sound, it's probably the CPU fan. Do not disconnect that, though. He was referring to the PSU compartment fan (the fan at the very bottom of the case) which is usually deemed unnecessary. If you can determine that the CPU fan is making the noise, you would need to buy a n...

I think some motherboards do not provide both PWM and voltage management on the CPU fan header. There should be an option under Thermal Management (or something similar) to disable the fan fail warning. Easiest way to slow the fan further (if the fan will support lower voltages) would probably be to...

I would try mounting the HR-03 the other way and remove a few PCI covers, then tape up unwanted intake holes to create some airflow over the cooler. Might lower the temps a bit. That wouldn't be a bad idea, but my Raptor would really suffer from the lack of airflow. The HR-03 is the GPU cooler, isn...

I'm not sure how cost/time effective it would be to build. Pulling the parts from the bay (unless it's ridiculously expensive) might be a better plan. Thanks Andy, that's good to hear. Ambient temps could easily go up by 5C mid-summer, though I try to keep my computer usage to a minimum on those days, for obvious reasons :p Right now I'm leaning towards a TR HR-01 Plus. Should I be concerned? Q9300 temps
I'm running an Intel Q9300 on an aBit ix38 QuadGT. I just replaced the tri-cools in my P182 with the slow Yate-Loon fans. Running these at 6v, my core temps seem to have increased ~4C each, using the stock Intel HSF. I plan to replace this eventually, but it's not really in the budget right now. So ...

There are a few good posts in the discussion of that article that have some good information. Thing is, the measurements of the Nexus fans were spot on. The Scythe fans reviewed appear to be rated below the ambient noise level when tested, so it's understandable that they would test higher than advertised. Furthermore, if this Noctua review was done in the past week or so, it appears Mike wa...

However I wonder if something was wrong with the specific fan. It does seem odd that the measured noise (32dB) would be over 12dB above that of the rating. Looking at the review of the NF-S12-1200, though, that was measured 8dB above the rating. Perhaps Noctua uses some questionable methods of rati...
