Got the new computer setup with the MT-40. It's a foxconn 760GXK8MC. The board has got a few features but not a fully blown setup. Right now compiling gcc-4.1.2 using these speeds 2200mhz at 1.05v. It's running fanless :D Incidentally, I want to point potential AMD underclockers to this post by bure...

Do NAS boxes need less power than a PC? My Linksys WRT45GL is GNU/Linux based and it probably uses a bit more for the hard drive but to give you a completely inaccurate comparison, that device uses .25A at 12v, 4W in total! A hardrive and controller would add something to that, but gives you an ide...

This is to the OP. We used to have a Toyota Camry (90 same era as your 89). I was really surprised how economical that car was. We got 13km/l easily on most trips (7.6kms per 100km) without even trying. And that was two adults a large dog and the car filled with gear. Surprising for a nearly 20 year...

If all you want to do is put your movies and audio somewhere. The simplest choice would be a NAS (Network Attached Storage) box. The discontinued NSLU2 is popular.

Undervolter from years ago 8) At various stages I've owned 3 mobile athlons. The best one, a XP-M 2400+ worked well at between 1.225v and 1.25v at 1.8ghz. That was a nice chip. Also, a couple of these went into a Tyan 2466 with 4 gigs of ram. The two ran at stock 2133mhz each at the 1.56v. Individua...

Bonestonne I am primarily posting in response to the Original Poster. Yes you can build a computer-that-does-audio out of random bits-and-pieces-you-may-have-lying-around. But.. the OP was talking about building a purpose-built DAW and spending a decent amount of money to do so. I am trying to point...

I use RME soundcards myself. People are not getting better sound card performance with the PCIe versions. The reason is that all motherboards with PCIe are implicitly tied to the PCI bus with regards to interrupts (as I was saying above). And often, just walk all over it. So, it follows that you can...

Hello everyone. First post. This subject is something I know quite a bit about and although I don't want to spoil the party, there are things that are quite important to note which haven't been mentioned. Firstly, the motherboards available that work well for DAWs are not very well documented in one...
