Re: Third party mounting hardware for Thermalright coolers?

It seems that the solution to my problem was released by Thermalright six weeks after I gave up looking and bought a new cooler instead! How's that for timing. Although I haven't tried out the new bolt thru kit on the IFX-14 yet, Thermalright have confirmed it is compatible. See this thread for deta...

Re: Thermalright introduces VX BTK II mounting kit

Thanks Steve. (Maybe Thermalright only respond to email requests from USA?) I am still a little confused though. The BTK from the Macho rev.A is not compatible with the IFX-14 due to the different sized cpu block. (The top plate from the Macho is too small to fit properly on the IFX block.) If this ...

Re: Thermalright introduces VX BTK II mounting kit

Anyone know the size of the block the top plate will fit onto? I am wondering if it is compatible with IFX-14; not listed on Thermalright's site, but Silver Arrow is..... Edit: Some European sites are listing the kit as being for the IFX-14 as well as the Silver Arrow. http://geizhals.at/eu/thermalr...

WD Blue 1TB single-platter WD10EZEX

Anyone have experience with the 1TB single-platter WD10EZEX? It is 7200rpm but is supposed to be tuned for low noise, for example seek times are around 20ms. It seems to have pretty good sustained transfer rates. I just ordered one for use as a storage drive, will post back impressions when I can. h...

Re: Third party mounting hardware for Thermalright coolers?

I would be a little scared to drill holes in the motherboard for fear I might damage it! Seems high risk when the mobo costs more than the cooler. Unfortunately the new Thermalright mounting hardware (HR-02 Macho) is not compatible with the old IFX-14 due to the cpu blocks being different sizes; the...

Re: Third party mounting hardware for Thermalright coolers?

I don't have the tools or inclination for home made. When I tear down the old system I am going to see if the new mounting hardware for the HR-02 is compatible with the IFX-14. If it is I may try contacting Thermalright to try and purchase an extra set. Surely they must supply replacement kits to pe...

Third party mounting hardware for Thermalright coolers?

I finally upgraded to Ivy Bridge and socket 1155, but found myself having to buy a new cooler (HR-02 Macho) because there is no stock in the UK for any of Thermalright's 1155/1156 bolt thru kits that could have retrofitted my perfectly good IFX-14. I have been looking out for these bolt thru kits fo...

I would very much like to see the performance of this case with a Noctua NH-L12 installed with the underneath fan blowing up through the heatsink towards the PSU.

Re: Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate Edition

Can power consumption in zerocore power state be tested please? The ability of the 7 series cards to more or less turn themselves off in long idle is one of the biggest advantages over the previous generation. I hope this card has not shipped without this feature, that would be a shame.

Re: Silverstone Fortress FT03 microATX Tower

The FT03 seems designed from the ground up for a tower cooler, a shame that it could not be tested with one. The rest of the design flaws rule out a purchase in any case, but a future revised version addressing some of the weaknesses would be very interesting. BTW, the Silverstone link on the last p...

Re: Does Sapphire 5670 realy idle to ~8W, like 4670?

My Sapphire 5670 (SKU# 11168-02-20R) idles approx 13-14W AC at the wall, so about 10-11W DC allowing for PSU inefficiency. RBE reports 3d voltage of 1.1V and 2d of 1V, haven't checked the voltages manually. This card doesn't overclock well though, unstable, but running at stock is fine. Agree that t...

Re: Does Sapphire 5670 realy idle to ~8W, like 4670?

Interesting. I have the exact same Sapphire card on order, not arrived yet. 12W idle not bad, about the same as my old 4670. What are the idle clocks, any scope for lowering them to save more power?

It seems that the GoGreen does save the extra power by using a lower GPU voltage. TechPowerUp measured the actual voltage on the card as 1.00 V in all three clock profiles (page 31 of their review). This explains why the load power consumption is very good compared to other 5750 cards, but the idle ...

The main issue with these mid to low end ATi cards is where the board "partners" leave out the chip that lowers the voltage on the fly, thus saving a few cents on manufacturing costs. The clock speeds can usually be corrected in the bios, but the voltages cannot because there is no physical way for ...

Yeah I'd go dual core too, the power savings of EIST at idle would I think make up for the consuption by the extra core. As you say it'd be nice to have the extra core, and to be honest most of the system power consumption at idle/low load will be from the chipset rather than the processor itself. A...

My 4670 uses only approx 12w AC (maybe 9w DC) at idle, so I doubt yours would make any difference to the fan speed in the PSU. At least at idle and watching HD video etc, maybe gaming will be different.

The memory doesn't downclock because when the clockspeed of GDDR5 is changed it causes the screen to flicker momentarily, something that doesn't seem to affect GDDR3 etc. I guess they would get lots of people complaining about "faulty" cards.
