I'm building a remote NAS backup storage server for the garage, in case of theft or fire at my HTPC my archives will be preserved. I really wanted to go with a trusted Gigabyte or Asus mobo but they simply do not make a miniITX with the mandatory features: - AMD - at least 4 SATA ports (pref SATA2) ...

Not worried about vibration, as this will be my backup server out in the garage in case of theft or fire.

OK, so Athlon 45W it is.

So Jetway seems to have only one AMD model available, the NC81 . This is assuming my inference is correct that Geode is older than 780G. It's hard to interpret AMD's CPU line. Phenom seems to be the newest, but they're all 65W. Athlon seems to be the oldest, but they're 45W, and I can't figure out w...

I bought this case, with a Supermicro 3-to-5 drive cage.

Interesting, thanks. Have any large institutions chosen Jetway, J&W, or Zotac?

MiniITX with AMD for Storage Server

I am having an awful time finding the mobo. This will be for a storage server in a little Q4 case out in the garage, which will back up my terabyte media server in case of theft or fire. (4 hot-swap 2TB drives) Must be AMD (as Intel has an atrocious competitive record), and mini-ITX with at least 4 ...

Well, I've just read this whole thread in the vain hope that someone would know a way to adjust diskio's in Linux. Running Conky I find that my drive is hit every ten seconds, all the time. (Intrepid) But what's hitting it? I'm not running indexing, so it might be write caching, but how to confirm? ...

After much research and planning, I am now asssembling what is shaping up to be the perfect HTPC: - Silverstone GD02 - Seasonic SS-350ET (+80, 99% Active PFC) - Asus P5Q-EM - Thermalright XP-120 - Arctic Fan 12 (PWM, liquid bearing, daisy-chained) - E8400 - 2x2GB Crucial nonbuff/nonECC - 1TB Seagate...

SST don't think I'll overclock. It may will be that the Thermalright will cool passively as well, but heck for an extra $9 I might as well put a liquid-bearing, quiet, PWM fan on it. (if it'll fit in the height) The Arctic Cooling fans seem to be unrecognized gems.

Ya saw that, but its performance is quite inferior. Will try the Thermalright.

Thank you Jesse. Ah, I see; I'd taken the box-style to be an older fan, but it seems to have all the features of the cage-style. I've ordered a 120mm for the XP-120 heatsink and two 80mm's for the GD-02 case, and will daisy-chain them all off the CPU's PWM header. It ought to make a pretty quiet sys...

Point taken, but I want to reverse the fan to blow up so it'd be in the heat stream. This would have a major impact on this system-critical component if sleeve bearing. But I have now found the Arctic Fan 12 PWM, which has the advanced liquid bearing and blade design, AND has the vital PWM, AND is u...

Anybody out there? Only two fans I trust (SPCR trusts) are the Nexus 120 PWM and Scythe Kama PWM, both sleeve bearing . I can not understand why these expensive fans don't at least have ball-bearing. A sleeve bearing eliminates my wish to have the fan blow up out of the CPU heatsink (in the heat), r...

I'm using the Intel DG45ID mobo and E8400 CPU, and estimating, it appears that best-case I'll have 90mm clear-height. What heatsinks are ppl using? Tentatively I've ordered a Thermalright XP-120 (63mm) and Scythe S-Flex 1200 fan (25mm), but am concerend about the spread of the heatsink and possible ...
