Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

Yeah, I just got two new servers to break in. I'm now running 3-4 IBM x3550M3 with various cpu types. 8 and 12-core. They use hyperthreading so to the OS (linux) they appear 16 and 24-core. I use -smp to make the client use only as many threads as there are physical cores. It would be a bit quicker ...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

Yeah, well, I have to say I was surprised myself at how much points the night time folding on the Xeon servers produced. I have three dual socket Xeon servers folding, one is 8-core, active all the time, two are 12-core, active from 6PM to 7AM and on weekends. A 12-core at full blast consumes about ...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

Speaking of stepping it up, it looks like jhimanka had a really good day last week, ran up 488,655 points in a single day! Not sure how that happened, but great work! I didn't check, but I think two or three bigadv jobs happened to finish very near each other. It's a fluke, but looks impressive, ye...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

Hey, speaking of production spikes, let me just say dayum! to jhimanka! You keep this up, you may overtake me in production! Great work! :D Thanks. Not likely that I would get ahead of you...I'm just harvesting some night time cycles from two linux Xeon servers. Those bigadv jobs produce a surprisi...

Re: 9,000,000!!!!!

Well, it looks like someone has some new capacity to show off, coming at 9 million it's.... Thanks, the new linux client enabled me to add a couple of 8-core Ubuntu machines. They seem pretty quick. I tried one with -bigadv but it took a long time and didn't produce that much points. Regular big, e...

Thanks guys. I'm breaking in a new dual socket hexacore Xeon system and those things are quick. Surprisingly quiet too for a 1U machine. I think I'll keep this one folding until early August.

Thanks guys. Actually I've been folding for years but usually at something like 1000 PPD rate. As it's summer and the servers are under-utilized, I decided to step up the tempo for a while. An eight core Xeon 5460 is surprisingly effective. Unfortunately it won't be available for long.
