Thoughts on the Crysis Warhead $699 gaming PC...

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/crysis-warhead-pc-ea,6344.html I am very intrigued by this concept, and this could be something that could potentially greatly benefit the PC gaming world. Idea is you buy this computer, and it will be able to play Crysis, as well as most other games. It is a known a...

Why not open the PSU up and see what fan they have used? Even if it is an OEM only fan it should have some kind of product code on it which you can google to find specs for it.
Good point.

Hmmmm, those still see a little loud (25dB., but no idea how loud the current one it. All the other fans (CPU and GPU cooler, and two case fans) are virtually noise-free.

140mm fan Thermaltake is the loudest in my system...

...I have this PSU (or VERY similar, 550w, modular cables, and 140mm fan): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153051 Works fine, but after going psycho on my ATI 4850 (end result is a S1 and 120mm 10dB. fan), the PSU is now the loudest thing in the computer by far (which is sti...

When I S1-modded my 4850 I almost felt like back in AthlonXP-days - fragile die, lots of pressure, lots of money at risk and no warranty anywhere. But I did scarier things back in the days, you know :D, and everything works fine. Actually, that metal spacer made me feel a lot better. Not a lot of c...

With the sun-like heat the 4850 puts off, I cannot imagine how quickly things would go to hell if the cooler was not making proper contact with the GPU

Problems with removing stock ATI 4850 cooler?

As in, I read ONE thing somewhere that mentioned that when you remove the stock cooler from the ATI 4850, that the card will shut down after 30 seconds.

Anyone ever come across this, or is it false? I have parts coming for my 4850 which means the stock cooler will be long gone.

Thanks!

Returning the VisionTek is 100% safe.

Yes, its the S1 Rev. 2

That would suck to have ordered the wrong thing!

I have 2 different 4850's, will mod ONE - help deciding!

I ordered a Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 to cool a 4850. However, I just realized I have 2 cards, one of which will be returned. The first one is a bone-stock/reference VisionTek. The second one is an overclocked Sapphire with a loud-as-*$&@ Zalman cooler. Both are the same price. Here is the dilemma:...

OK, just ordered.

Got the cooler, the 800RPM Scythe (10dB for god sakes!), and a pack of the Zalman RAM heatsinks. Total with shipping was $50.

Should be here in a few days (750 miles from me to the warehouse).

This should be good. I will certainly post pictures and a report.

I just did up my 4850 last night with an S1, so I have a few observations: 1) I couldn't figure out how to get AC's VRM heatsinks to fit over all the little power FET chips on the end of the card. There are 8 of them arranged in 2 squares of 4 chips each, while the included heatsinks seem more appr...

Btw. (if no one else did it): Welcome to SPCR! w00t! All the other kids on the 'mainstream' forums were telling me I was wasting my money getting an aftermarket cooler, but even the stock cooler on my 4850 is the loudest thing in my system at 30% (hot as hell even at idle). So I said: http://www.pb...

My 4850 would run absolutely fanless w/o any problems. I just installed a Scythe S-Flex 500rpm for peace of mind, and it keeps my 4850 under 50~55°C (hot days) when playing Crysis. To conclude, it's OK to run the S1 fanless on the 4850. But if you add any 120mm fan, be it as slow as it gets, you g...

Thanks for the reply. If the pads that come on the RAM coolers work, I will not mess with it. One of the sites showed good temps running the card fully-passive, but not sure how that would work in reality. I have no problem using a quiet fan on it. FWIW, the fans on my Lian-Li are running at 800-100...

1st post - want to mod my 4850 with an Accelero S1...

Hi guys - I am hoping I will find some like-minded people here (some of the people on other forums don't care about noise) in terms of wanting a VERY quiet computer, even if it means spending some cash or doing otherwise more involved stuff. Quick story: Bought a Sapphire 4850 with a Zalman, way too...
