Will the Zalman do the job or I'm wasting Watts?

Help with motherboard decision...

Hello. I want to built a low power server/download client and I want a motherboard with the following requirements: a) Intel ICH9R and above - capability for 6port RAID0/1/5, support for E5200 and 45nm intel processors. b) low power integrated chipset c) PCIe Gigabit LAN - not Atheros, not Marvell 8...

Ah, thanks a lot for your input. So, you think an ATi HD 2400 Pro will be a better choice than a GeForce 7200GS? Remember 7300GS (clocked higher) consumes about 9W at idle. I haven’t tested the recent nVIDIA cards so can’t comment on them. For HD2400 Pro, I can find a Sapphire 2400 PRO 1Gb for ...

If you get a HD 2400 Pro by a decent manufacturer so that in 2D mode the clocks and voltage are reduced you can expect it to consume roughly 7W AC more at idle than an IGP; from my own experience. It’s hard to beat that on price and power consumption. Warning. ATI cards seem to vary a lot in idle...

yes, the 4670 is waaaay overkill. take a look here: http://archive.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=7&t=9354 something like 7200GS/7300GS/7300LE is perfect. I'm also considering 7200GS. I think it's gonna add 8W to my system in idle. Question is can I undervolt/underclock this to achieve further l...

I presume your not going to be gaming on this thing, so why the pixel shader and DX requirements? Anyway, the 7200 would be a good cheap choice if you can get it passive (its not on sale at any of my usual shopping places so i dont know if its commonly sold passively or what the price would be). So...

Which PCIe VGA has the lowest power consumption?

Hi, I want to build a computer for server/download purposes and I can't seem findind motherboards with integrated graphics that have the features I want. I ended up in the ASRock P45R2000 w/p45 chipset and Dual Gbit Lan. So, I want to put a discrete PCIe VGA card there, which apparently has the lowe...

I consider your opinions.

Maybe I'll just use RAID 1 along with Windows Home Server. The other drives will be handled by the OS.

Tell me some suggestions for motherboards..for server/download station purposes only...

I don't know how those old Intel MB's and chips compare in heat and power to an AMD 4050e/4450e/4850e. I suspect the old Intel's use more power, but I don't really know. I think you need a RAID-5 adapter card for what you want. Here is a brief summary of RAID. The term stands for Redundant Array of...

I am not sure what you need in terms of RAID. You said you want RAID 1 for two of drives (I understand that part), but then the other disks are JBOD (no raid)? Did you mean the other drives are RAID-5? JBOD is not RAID-5, which is what I assume you actually want. By saying JBOD i was assuming raid5...

Hi guys, I am reading the forums for a long time and I want your suggestions in the following: Lowest budget/low-power server/download pc with remote access (without monitor etc.) with the following requirements for the mobo: 1) 8 or more SATA ports with RAID 1 and 5. In particular, I want to have 2...
