Re: Antec 302-S Project
Its been a while since I've been on here. I've been hanging out on automotive forums more since I got my car... and well I forgot about my PC  . I treated myself to a cheap upgrade this boxing day, a Asus M5A97 R2.0 mobo, an AMD FX 6100 X6 CPU, Kingston HyperX Black 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM, and an I...

Since he asked for "small," I'll guess that the p183 is too big (and they increased the size of the P183 V3 by another inch, too). I don't know anything about the Fractal R3. Sorry I only read the words: ...elegant in appearance (no interior lighting, crazy angles, or windows if possible), and with...

Make sure the PSU has a 4-pin CPU power connector. Otherwise you'd need a molex to 4/8 pin CPU power connector.

I find LG drives noisy.
Pioneer DVD drives are quieter.
If your not using the top fan, be sure to seal it off to prevent air from entering the top and out the back.

Re: Recommend me a new case
Consider: Apply sound/ weight dampening to the CM690's side panels (acousti-pak or some heavy peel & stick tiles) to stop them from vibrating, close up the side vents, soft mount & undervolt your case fan(s), and suspend the one hard drive in the 5.25" bay. There aren't that many "quiet" cases out t...

Would it not be better if the psu was turned upsided down so the fan doesnt ramp up because of the cpu heat? The case has enough space above the psu.

Looks good overall (though I'd go with AMD for more performance for my buck). Does your GPU have a good quiet cooler? One last thing: will I be able to use my 4 pin motherboard power connector on today's motherboards as they all seem to have 8 pin connectors? Yes the 4 pin will work in the 8pin conn...

Re: lower voltage on the chassi fan of Silverstone Grandia G
The simple solution is to buy or make a fan controller, or use a fanmate to lower its voltage. Since the fan is 3-pin, you could hard wire the red (3pin) and black (3pin) wires to a molex connector, using 5V (red molex) as ground and 12V (yellow molex) as positive. Then route the RPM wire (yellow on...

Re: Front fans for positive pressure, bad tradeoff?
Why do you need a positive pressure setup? Negative pressure is does slightly better at keeping temps cool. Air will find the fastest way free- removing the rear fan and leaving the top in place may bring air in the rear vent, and out the top. My suggestion would be to block the side vent to prevent...

Suspend the HD in the 2nd optical bay, mount the SSD on the case floor. 120mm exhaust to cool a semi-passive CPU, and 1 or 2x92mm intake to cool a passive video card.

Would you mind telling me how you prepped the case before painting it? Sanding, priming and so on. I prepped the case by giving the bare metal a light sand with a 120 grit sanding sponge. I de-riveted all the panels to ensure proper paint distribution. I used Krylon black (non-gloss) paint to paint...

Interesting,

If the Antec 900 V3 added USB 3.0, SSD, and CPU cut out, maybe we can expect such minor improvements in a revised P183...?

Re: turn fans off
The Antec P193's TriCool fans cannot be controlled using the motherboard for automatic control based on temperature, because they plug directly into the power supply. You would have to hard-wire the fans to a separate fan controller (or to 3 pin connectors for the motherboard) and control them by ch...

Re: Please help me decide on a case and heatsinks.
I was able to under-volt my 140mm fan in my Antec 300 and run it @ 5v on medium. The molex connector's pins are easy to release with a paperclip. I soft mounted it (see sig) to ease the vibrations; its very quiet, and makes a big difference in CPU cooling. For the P183, I suppose you could drill two...

Alternatively, you can usually mount a modern AM3 cooler on the AM2 or AM2+ processor because the mounting mechanism and physical dimensions of the CPU are unchanged. True if the OP is running an A64 Socket 754/939/AM2 as the title of the thread suggests. However if your using an Athlon XP (Socket ...

Re: Antec NSK3480 first case mod - some advice needed!
Assuming you blocked off the side vent, you don't need 2x120mm fans in the front. One 120mm front intake, and one 120mm exhaust at the rear will suffice with your components. Consider a filtered fan on the case bottom to cool the graphics card. Soft mounting the fans will insure vibrations will not ...

Re: Been a long time since I upgraded
Generally I'd stick with more reputable Gigabyte or Asus boards and 3 year warranty. I've had bad experiences with MSI in the past. For the CAD and photoshop, you'd notice a huge improvement in processing time if you had a chip with more L3 Cache. A 440 X3 with 3x512kb L2 cache is similar in price t...
