A case made of something like mesh would let noise out so it's really only the better solution if you don't have any fans at all. In closed up cases we are trying to direct a little airflow through heatsinks, thus cooling the components.

However that post is two years old and another report of such a case has yet to be seen. It would be so cool though, but heavy and expensive.

Considering your temps are so low you probably don't need all the airflow that you have.

I'd rotate the heatsink and duct it to the rear fan so that the PSU won't be able to recive hot air from the CPU. Also you could try removing the CPU fan and/or slowing the fans down to 7V.

Yes it will allow a lot of airflow, but the holes will also allow noise to escape, so it won't be very quiet.

I have an E4300 which I've undervolted to the lowest setting avalible in my BIOS (only 1.15V) and then overclocked to 2.5GHz.

I use this rig for for everything, surfing the web and gaming, and I've undervolted to keep the heat down which allows me to reduce fan speeds.

The Nexus Value 430W psu is probably a good choise for you, its cheap and quiet, and will be able to power your system.

If you do want a fanless psu there are a few avalible, both att 300W and 400W.

If I were in your shoes, and I really wish I was right now, I'd go for watercooling with a few lowspeed fans on the radiators. Granted it will not be 0dB, but it will be very quiet. As for the pump in the system, you could probably slap some (read: A LOT) of foam around it and that should be getting...

This power supply is way harder to fan switch as it got PCB on both sides. My reason for asking is I think there's a good chance you might have better luck with the 500. The 380 will still ramp up at the same rate no matter what fan you have in there and there doesn't seem to be massive scope for g...

Need help choosing new PSU for my system.

Hey, I'm typing this from my sisters computer since my PSU burned up just 10 minutes ago. It was a Hiper 530W PSU that I had running with a Nexus 120mm fan @ 5V. Anyway, now I need a new PSU and I can't figure out which one to use for my system. My system is: ASUS P5B Motherboard 2x1GB DDR-2 Memory ...

Some things you could do are:
Suspend the harddrives with elastics (fabrics store for ~20kr).
Swap the fans for high-quality, quiet fans like Nexus (~100kr each) which you hardwire to 5V.
Swap the PSU fan too.
Add sound-absorbing material to flat surfaces like the side covers (~200kr).

Are those fans on the top intake fans? Doesn't seem logical to have intakefans at the top, I'd try reversing them and blocking of some vents to experiment with the airflow, like yamahaSHO said, because that doesn't seem optimal.

Looks sweet judging from the pictures posted. Too bad the case isn't the best, but it seems like you will be solving this nicely with some sound-dampening material.

Blocking of big vents that you don't want dust entering from is a good idea, its what I would do. It actually helps you control your airflow since you will be minimizing the number of places where air can enter.

1) Not necessarily, you could also use a 3pin Y cable on the motherboard that allows you to connect 2 fans to one connector, I'm not really sure how this works with 4pin connectors though. 2) Probably, yes. 3) You can control fans connected to the PSU by hardwiring them for 5V, 7V or 12V, or you can...

Nexus RS 120mm lowest possible startup voltage?

Simply, as the topic states, what is the lowest voltage the Nexus RS 120mm fans start at? I have 3 of them at 5V and I'd like them even more silent, since they are just barely audible if I focus.

Okey, I'm not really sure if I will build this, but if I will, the shopping list will be:

Intel DG45FC motherboard
Intel Celeron E1400 CPU
Random, cheap 2x1GB RAM
160GB SATA1 HDD that I have lying around
Compucase 8K01 case including 100W PSU

Sounds pretty good in my ears, anything I should change?
