I am absolutely stunned that you've come to the premier quiet-computer website on the English-speaking internet and are arguing with long-time members, moderators, and review staff over the noise of a component because of a review published by a website with absolutely no skill, knowledge, understa...

You should really look at the SPCR reviews -- the Enermax is significantly quieter from idle up through any realistic power level that you might be using.
I'll read them, thanks.

True. But in that review, the Silencer seems quieter both at "idle" (low load) and full load. So it could be reasonably quieter than the Enermax. http://techreport.com/r.x/psus-0708/noise-idle.gif Both were below ambient at idle, there is no way to tell which was actually quieter in this test. :rol...

Buy S-FLEX: better bearing, good airflow and good pressure.

That's a very long thread, haven't had time to read all of it. Is it mainly the 1TB version that's giving the problems? 1 TB, 640 GB etc. yeah some of the bigger ones. Still... people are also complaining about some of WD's bigger drives in that very thread, as well. It seems you take your chances....

to be honest, I wouldn't trust any company that would rate a passive power supply for usage on a continuous basis at anything above about 450W. remember, even if the power supply is 80% efficient, at 500W DC output the heat output from the PSU is going to be >100W, even with solid caps the PSU is g...

Yeah, but the defective Spinpoint F1 units seems to be above the average of the defective units of other disks. Just read here: viewtopic.php?t=41140 but you can read things like these on many forums on the web.

Re: Building a new rig... advice?

I would take the WD Caviar Blue 750 GB instead. Any particular reason?? I chose the Spinpoint F1 because (a) I'm a subscriber to MaximumPC, and they've given it they're "Best-of-the-Best" status; and (b) SPCR has the F1 under its Recommended Hard Drives. The Spinpoint F1 has a "Mr. Hyde behaviour" ...

I think so powerfull passive PSUs are useless. Why? If you need so much power, you'll have plenty of heat in PC, so you'll need many fans to take the heat out. I use passive PSU - an 300W Etasis model. My PC can run 100% passive only at idle where it uses about 70W (from wall). While gaming I need ...
