Re: Advice building Mac Pro like small FF workstation
Are you building a workstation without a Xeon CPU and ECC memory? I'm going to build a workstation too, but I need ECC memory and I couldn't find any Mini-ITX/Micro-ATX workstation motherboard with Xeon and ECC memory support :) So I'll use a full ATX motherboard inside a Silverstone Fortress FT05 c...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide
That was where the article really started jarring for me as well. The 980 and an i7 can be justified assuming the build budget is limitless and gaming performance AND visual quality are the primary criteria, but then we dip into cut-down budget SSDs from 2012 (that don't even seem so 'budget value'...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide
All those reviews were made when Enermax actually built their PSUs at their Impervio factory (now sold), so IMO they don't answer to none of my remarks. At any rate, I don't think you're playing with the right attitude, so let's stop here: have a nice time. Some of the latest Enermax PSUs are manuf...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide
Since Enermax don't ever build their PSUs anymore, I wouldn't be that sure about the Platimax (even if I own a Platimax since last September): on the other hand, neither the E10 is sort of a winner, quality-wise, so all those options are roughly comparable, IMO. Take also note that currently italia...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide
I don't really agree with the SSD choice: Sandforce-based SSDs have a bad reliability reputation (maybe with the only exception of the Intel variants). The reported alternatives are OK. Also, I don't fully agree with the PSU alternatives, I think the Enermax Platimax would be a much better choice th...

Well... I don't know if it's normal or not, but I wouldn't be happy to buy a card with a "premium" and "silent" cooler which makes this noise.
I'd RMA it.

Unfortunately there isn't a 1 TB MX100. The 1 TB alternative by Crucial is the M550 1 TB (the Micron M600 is OEM-only).

It would be thus fine to use this to generate heat for a heatsink test. This is the point here. But if it would be e.g. used to compare the power use of AMD and Intel CPU's (which SPCR uses iirc Prime95 for), this could lead to underestimation of the AMD power use. I'd just say different , you coul...
