Re: What board to replace my Z170 Pro Gaming with?

I just purchased Asus Z170M-PLUS and I'm very impressed by Q-Fan in BIOS. I haven't updated bios because of topics like this but has anyone reliably tested those limitations? Is it possible that it depends of fan's PWM characteristics, I've dealt with PWM fans that would stop on low PWM cycles and f...

Re: Define Mini DAW (2016 update: Skylake)

So I upgraded to Skylake and I have to admit, I'm really impressed with Asus Q-Fan UEFI implementation. You can set every fan header to be either voltage or PWM controlled. Every fan can be "optimized" to determine minimum PWM cycle (15% for my Noctuas) and calibrated with 3 point curve graph. I hav...

Re: Define Mini DAW (2014 update: NH-U14S)

Hi! About NH-U14S; if mounted vertically it fits with ModuVent (they are soft as pillows, so they can touch the heatsink) but when it's horizontally (like I have it now) there is no way. I just swapped side panels and I have plain on the heatsink side and ModuVent on the back. It doesn't interfere w...

Yeah, those numbers are about right. Biggest noise source remains GPU, followed by hard drive.

Re: Define Mini DAW (2014 update: NH-U14S)

I'm sure it all depends on the case, fans, airflow and air pressure. Adding slow 12 cm fan didn't even help, 14 cm fan helped a bit, but I wouldn't buy a fan just for that. If you ask me, it just happens that negative airflow in a well sealed case with 2 fans just a few centimeters away from Macho w...

Re: Define Mini DAW (2014 update: NH-U14S)

I didn't, it doesn't even look like it's capable or designed for.. I really don't mind having one more fan on heatsink, it doesn't make any difference sound wise. Only tests can tell, but I very much doubt it would perform like HR-02. As I said, I was using Macho passively just because adding 12cm f...

Re: Define Mini DAW (2014 update: NH-U14S)

PS: great picture by the way!! Thank you! I tried adding NF-A15 to Macho, just to see how it works, and it improved temperatures by 2°C. There was almost no difference using 12 cm fan (Slipstream) and that's why I decided to run HR-02 passive in the first place (not because of noise reasons). Noctu...

Re: Define Mini DAW (Update 5: Corsair RM650 & MSI GTX 760)

Got a chance to use macho in some other machine, so I decided to try NH-U14S. NF-A15 fan didn't help that much with macho, nether did any other fan. There was only 2°C difference between passive or active setup. Case fans were, fortunately, running at lower speeds. NH-U14S improved temperatures for ...

Re: Want to help Corsair build the [quietest] case ever?

I think it's the only feature that you cannot find anywhere (and I believe no one mentioned): NO HONEYCOMB FAN GRILL! We all read fan reviews from SPCR, and basically every quality fan becomes (I quote) "inaudible" below around 600 RPM. OK, it's silent below that speeds, but what happens when you pu...

Re: Case Fans - Fractal R4

1) You have Asus motherboard, so most likely have the most flexible fan speed control software available. Use it, and if you don't like it, search for alternatives (bios or fixed voltage). 2) Every recommended CPU heatsink comes with PWM fan, so you will connect it on CPU fan header. PWM provides v...

Re: Thermalright HR-02 or Scythe Mugen 4 for silent i3-4330?

I agree. There won't probably be any need for fan, since it doesn't help that much, compared to passive operation (with decent case airflow).. If it isn't a problem on i7 chips, I'm sure that it won'f be on your i3.

Re: Silverstone TJ-08E gamer

Hey, cool idea with SSD :D When you will mount proper cooler on CPU, it would be nice to see how much GPU affects CPU temperatures in case design like this. In typical case (GPU below CPU), GPU on load can add 15°C or more to processor temperatures, I wonder if this kind of case design helps with th...

Re: Define Mini DAW (Update 5: Corsair RM650 & MSI GTX 760)

Just to be clear, GPU is extremely quiet, it's hard to tell if it's turned on or not from 2 meters away (!!), and I understand that this means inaudible for most people. It's just that I have very quiet room/studio and I don't live in the city, so it gets VERY quiet at night when I usually work. For...

Re: Noctua Adobe Workstation build

How fast are your other fans? They might mask GPU idle noise. Together with 300 RPM case fans, it certainly is loudest part in my system.

It's not "bad fan" noise, but fast air woosh, based on high fan speed.

Re: Define Mini DAW (Update 4: HDD cage fan mount)

I tried with stock fan (TR-147) and some old video card and fan sticked about 3 mm out of heatsink, preventing GPU to be installed.. it can also be seen in your first picture.

It's really a tight fit, will post some pictures when new GPU arrives.

Re: Define Mini DAW (Update 3: 3 fans compared on HR-02)

I found better, more P182-like fan position. There is 1-2 mm clearance with normal fans, but NF-S12A fits perfectly with it's rubber edges.

Acoustics are much better, at the bottom there was a lot of turbolent noise, due to the fan grill.

Update 3: 3 fans compared on HR-02 So I decided to test few fans at my disposal on the heatsink (HR-02 Macho rev.A). There are two NF-S12A on the bottom and rear position. When testing CPU temperatures, they run at fixed 400 RPM. There are no other moving parts in the system. These are very subject...

Yes, these are full load temperatures, running prime95 for at least 30 minutes or until temperatures stabilize. Quite an improvement from Slipstream fans. I tried running Fan Xpert 2 on Fan Xpert+ only mobo (P8Z77-M) and everything works great and without problems. It's a nice step up from Xpert+, that had fixed low limits and didn't actually analyze fans to set the limits (min CPU=20%, min CHA=40%). Now I can set fans to their lowest safe RPM or turn...

Re: GPU heatsink design - affecting CPU temperature when on

I must repeat, I don't game, but I'm thinking about starting , from time to time. My setup didn't change, this is my work computer. My current temperatures barely reach 62°C with two fans on 470RPM. I just don't want GPU idle heat dissipation to affect CPU load temperatures. I don't have many experi...
