Silent, small form (M350 ?) build. Mac mini alternative
Hi everyone, I'm going to be moving a wall mounted foldable desk like this one . I want a small form factor tower that will fit in that shallow space when the desk is folded up. Silent would be great, quiet would be good enough. My current CPU fan (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus) is too loud for my lik...

Hi, Nah I'm afraid everyone around me has laptops these days, so no PSU for me. I'm not sure where the short circuit could come from since I tried with only the motherboard on a cardboard box and it still didnt work. The PSU whine has been bugging me enough that I want to change it even if it isnt t...

Nexus Value 430 or PicoPSU or .. ?
Hey all, Long story short, I believe my antec "smart power" PSU is dying on me and I'd like to replace it. My rig is based on a Dell Inspiron 530 that I moved inside an Antec Sonata 2 case (Foxtronn G33M02 motherboard, Core2Duo E4500 with arctix freezer 7 heatsink, 1x 8600GTS passively cooled, 4x 1G...

Best brick for PicoPsu (or other efficient and silent DC-DC)
Hey everyone,
Just wondering what is the best deals these days for a silent and low power PSU.
1) Which brick do people get these days?
2) Is the PicoPSU DC-DC converter still the best thing around? There seem to be alternatives (like electrodacus's supply)
Thanks!
S.

Wow that's way too expensive. The extra efficiency would practically never pay itself back as compared to the high initial cost. I've went through the Energy Star's list of power adapter efficiencies and if 120W is enough for you, you can find a LiteOn PA3717U-1ACA which is about 90% efficient for ...

Re: Wireless card not working properly
Have an MSI PC60G wireless card in a vista 64bit premium system, the box says it supports 64bit XP, but not vista. Here is the problem everything works OK like the internet and viewing network resources. The problem comes when I try to upload files to my NAS it freezes the computer, only curable by...

if you can find the parts, a celeron 300a could probably work wonders. At least, that's what I used in a similar capacity. It was originally overclocked to 464 as my main gaming rig until it got replaced by a 1 GHz Athlon in y2k for games, and replacing my previous router's K7 that died in a horrib...

While I believe you could get lower power consumption possibly from a newer beast, would it be worthwhile for the few watts you save? I would say option 3 with an even older AGP card, maybe a TNT. +1 Assuming you save a whopping 30 W using a newer beast. 30W * 365 days * 24 (hours / days) * 1 (KW /...

Guess I'll just go for the mATX instead: I'll get a 120W picopsu (55$), a gigabyte 740g (55$) and some random matx case (60$) and it'll still be cheaper than that case (80$) + zoltec mini itx (130$) and I'll be sure the power supply is strong enough. Too bad, I would have loved a miniitx computer :...

Re: What is the strongest cpu this 60 power adapter could po
Any chance this would be strong enough for a low power sempron or is it only good enough for an atom? The Sempron can be lower power than Atom + 945GC/ICH7, but it does require undervolting to 0.8V or less. My 1.6GHz Sempron LE-1250 + 740G/SB700 + 4GB DDR2 is about 22W at full CPU load (no IGP load...

What is the strongest cpu this 60 power adapter could power?
I just found a 85$can (70$US) mini-itx computer case that comes with a 60W power adapter. Any chance this would be strong enough for a low power sempron or is it only good enough for an atom? Assuming no optical drive and either a 2.5" HD or a CF card... Link to the Apex MW-100: http://www.bestdirec...

I skipped the ubuntu ltsp visualization step and just use xp pro with multiple concurrent rdp hack. I'm about to do just that too, sounds easier for the windows part. The thing is , if I ever want to deploy this on a larger, (and legal scale), I'll probably need to built a edubuntu server on the si...

hey - if you have a kill-a-watt (or other power meter) - measure it for me... Often wondered how much power these use... I'm assuming something low like 20 watts or less, but it would be neat to know for sure (without having to buy a $20 power meter) Will do, I can get them for free at the library....

As for manufacturing outweighing actual usage, I think it's just a case of common sense really, raw materials need to be mined, then transported, then turned into x composite material which is then cut to shape and on and on etc. All the water, oil, electricity, petrol etc used must be considerable...

Not trying to be particularly nasty, but why bother asking the question, if you was just going to plump for the Sempron anyroad. At the end of the day, the energies used in manufacturing computer parts far outweigh any usage in an items lifetime, so if this was based on conscience, which is how you...

As was pointed out, energy costs money. The best rule of thumb is that the more money you spend on manufactured goods, the more of an environmental impact it has. There's exceptions, yes, but it's still a very good general rule. All true. But the external cost of the polluted water and toxic waste ...
