Re: Holy Cow! I hate Comcast

I've been on hold for 40 minutes waiting for one of their fucking Retention people pick up the call to renegotiate terms. At the 30 min mark, I started a text chat with customer service. Ten minutes later, she told me she was unable to deal or connect me to Retention - but she could connect me with...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

They're not useless if they dissuade someone from a terrorist act. Stopping a terrorist act is much harder than dissuading someone from doing it in the first place. Of course I was ironic. However, dissuading makes a good point of avoiding something bad. Or you could walk around it, or pass your ba...

And what would it help ? Ok, it would beep. So what ? Do you really think that solves anything ? What stops the shooter from shooting the guard at the metal detector and then ignoring the metal detectors ? So why not firing TSA agents? They're useless, after all a terrorist could detonate a bomb in...

Would the introduction of metal detectors in public offices (schools included) be fool? It wouldn't be a "drastic solution" that would be opposed as much as a Constitutional change affecting the right to bear an arm as a whole.

He's a bit harsh and it's too rhetorical to go back to native Americans, Lincoln and so on (leave the remote past in the remote past), but I guess sometimes such behaviour is justified. At least he shows how being a Christian doesn't mean you're blindly supporting some right-ish political views. He ...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

^^ Interesting data: According to 2012 stats, Canada has about 1/3 of guns per 100 residents than the US (30 vs 90). According to 2002 Nationmaster.com firearms murders (144 vs 9360), we can deduce that firearms murders rate in Canada is about 7 times lower than in the US. According to 2012 Guardian...

Same in Germany. It is actually illegal here to drop mail anywhere but the mailbox or hand it over personally to a homeowner. Packages have to be signed over. This. You (or your neighbour, if he agrees to) MUST sign a receipt. If nobody's at home, then they'll return for the next couple of days (in...

My load/unload cycle count for the WD10EARS-00Y5B1 I have, if the hex-dec conversion is correct, is 0000013B7F = 80,767. In two years or so, working as a storage/media drive. SSD are to expensive and small to even be taking seriously. I don't buy into the hype about how wonderful they are. When they cost the same and provide that same capacity as traditional harddrives then I'll take them seriously. There just not worth it. You're the smart guy who doesn't buy stuff int...

Just to clarify things, which monthly fee are we talking about? How much for the phoneless options among which you can choose (24/2 and 50/5)? Phoneless ADSL options: 768k/384k = $30/mo 1.5M/384k = $38/mo 3.0M/512k = $43/mo 6.0M/768k = $48/mo (I have the POTS subsidized version of this service - I ...

It would be interesting to read new opinions from gun supporters (and why this is a right thing in 2012)...

1. Any official in the US (state or federal level) is usually entitled to be called by the highest public office they ever held, even if they no longer hold that office. There is no law about this, it is just custom. So for example, Arnold Schwarzenegger should be addressed as "Governor" even thoug...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

Blaming the homicide rate on guns is not accurate IMO. The makeup of US society, with the legacy of slavery in the US, the free-flow of illegal Mexican immigrations, etc, distorts the numbers. The homicide rate in the US varies significantly depending on where one is located. Sure, but the homicide...

Once you have a country that has had guns legally (and in many cases illegally) for 220 years (and actually long before that), they are not so easy to get rid of. lowering the "-100mV offset" on cheap SB motherboards

My Asrock H61M-GS doesn't let me control vcore. It uses a voltage offset instead. However, it's limited to +-100mV, and I guess that there's more headroom for downvolting my i3-2120.
Anybody managed to bypass the default offset limit?
