Hey guys Sorry, I haven't checked the forums in a while. I was fed up of my loud drive and its fat IDE cable so I bought a new SATA Lite-On drive along with my parents new rig I put together for them. I was pleasently surprised with the drive when I set up my parents rig at work, but the workshop's ...

Nice build, looks very similar to my 300 rig in my sig. The only major diferences where silencing is concerned are that I used vinyl tiles to pad out my side panels and my HDDs aren't suspended at the moment, just screwed in with some silicone washers. Oh, and I also have a fan on the side panel wit...

Quiet optical drives
It's been a while since I last posted here, mainly because I reached a point where i was happy with the low level of noise my computer was creating. But one component has always bugged me and I don't want to have to put up with it anymore. My LG GSA-H55LBL lightscribe drive sounds like a small hurri...

But because several people have mentioned it might be a memory fault, I thought I'd test my memory by only installing one at a time. But during this process, I jiggled a few power connectors to my motherboard and graphics card and everything seems to be working fine now :? Just from seeing this hap...

Well... I disabled automatic restart but the same still happened, my computer just shut down, no BSOD, nothing. But because several people have mentioned it might be a memory fault, I thought I'd test my memory by only installing one at a time. But during this process, I jiggled a few power connecto...

My system dies if I try to play games
It's not so much of a silencing question but I know some of the readers of this forum have extensive knowledge with computers so I thought I'd ask here. Basically, this started happening a couple of months ago but after a while, it seemed to just resolve itself but it's back again and as soon as I a...

Well currently, the temps of the 4 cores range between 28 and 37°C which to me seems to be a rather large gap which made me think lapping may benefit me. I have my S1283 fitted to my motherboard with a Thermalright bolt thru kit, are these susceptible to bending the motherboard and impairing the co...

Heatsink Lapping
If anyone doesn't know, heatsink lapping is the process of polishing the bottom of a heatsink to a mirror shine in order to removed any microscopic grooves which can create air pockets which prevent thermal compounds from creating a perfect contact between the heatsink and the CPU heat spreader. Now...

When I installed my Xigmatek S1283...
When I installed my Xigmatek S1283, there was a plastic film across the bottom of the HS covering the flattened heat pipes but when I removed this, it left behind some of the adhesive which I wasn't too happy about. So I got my cloth and some alcohol and started to clean it off but found there was a...

I have 3 12025's too and for some reason, only having the 4 pin connector in the header doesn't report RPM readings so you either have to plug the yellow cable connector into the 4 pin socket or into another fan header on your motherboard. Don't ask why because I have no idea, just a bad design in m...

Thanks for the input guys :) The WD3200AAKS sounds like a good choice seeing as I'm on a bit of a budget and the 320GBs, although pretty small, would provide some extra storage. I'd get the VelociRaptor seeing as that would fit my needs perfectly but it's a little pricey for me. And a substantial si...

Quick, Quiet 160GB HDD?
I'd like to have a nice quiet 160GB HDD (or around that size) to store my OS and programs but even after looking at the recommended list, I'm none the wiser. I'd like it to be pretty fast (is there much latency between 7200 and 5400rpm's) and preferably pretty quiet because I'll simply be securing i...

I really like how you used the gutted out fans. Why did you put them in the order that you did? That is, why did you put the gutted fan next to the ninja and not the noctua? Same questions applies to the front fan. This got me thinking and I think you might be better off, from a cooling perspective...

Thanks guys, I don't think I'll change my processor for a while yet then, but I'll probably change my graphics card in the near future. Thanks again :) Nice rig you have there. I wonder though if you would become CPU limited in changing your graphics card from your current model. There definitely a...

Bolt kit for Xigmatek S-1283
Hey, I recently bought the Xigmatek S-1283 to cool my Q6600 but it only came with damn push pins to secure it, which are really fiddly and seem to put a huge strain on my motherboard. Does anybody know if there is a bolt kit that works with the S-1283?

Hm... well if the Asus 9600GT glaciator doesn't use ramsinks, I'm guessing it should be fine, but I'm no expert in these matters, so you should probably check with the manufacturer. Removal of the stock heatsink is easy, just unscrew the four screws on the underside of the card holding the heatsink ...
