Donate: Lian Li PC-C50 (mATX case)
Hi Mike, I am looking for a HTPC case that can house a system with which i can play some games as well, and the above seems to fit that bill nicely. As well, there are 2 (3 if you count the one on the backside) fan spots right at or near the CPU-Heatsink location, which should make it possible to ru...

Hi all, Thanks a lot for all the input so far. Just a short clarification: i am not talking about a ramdisc that sits in a 5.25’’ or in a PCI-e slot – sometimes i don’t turn the machine on for a couple of days at a time, which would lead to problems with a physical ramdisc (due to batteries ...

SSD + Virtual RAM Drive
Hi all, With the new generation of SSD (Vertex), there is no more stuttering issue, and all there is is sunshine and happiness (ignoring the price-premium). The only slight problem in sight is the wear (10’000 cycles), respective the small files write/read issue. Now, these days, the ram is so fre...

miniP180 - i7 mATX system - Airflow/Cooling questions
Hi Guys, I have been thinking about a new system (gaming, quieter than average) for some time now … my newest discovery is the mATX formfactor. As I don’t need lots of Expansion cards, I thought about going with this. Case: miniP180 – lots of space for a mATX tower, Place for big graphic cards...

PCI Slot Cooler
Hi all, It's me again. I am attempting a build that can run the latest games at a decent resolution. The main problem is the GPU, as it does generate some rather big heat / noise and as well does disturb the airflow quite a bit. When browsing, reading etc, the thought of a passively cooled GPU came ...

Hi Cherubroker, I thought I would write a line or two on this matter: In my company, we had some hefty losses due to the matter at hand. In the timeframe you mentioned, the exchange-rate between CAD/USD dropped roughly 25%. Now, in real life terms (rounded etc): Assuming the shop buys his heatsinks ...

Hey Dave, i am relatively new here, but let me point 2 things out: - the PSU is way too strong, you could probably go with a 200w with no problems ... 700w is only needed for Double/Triple-CF or SLI - thats a lot of RAM - a short explanation why you are going for the max? (4gig sticks are still some...

New build - i7
Hi all, Over the last few weeks, i reconsidered back and forth about my build a lot. My monitor is a 24’’ (1920x1200), and the rig will be used for gaming every other day. Money is not really an issue. I am aware that this build will not be as quiet as it gets, but after my current PC, everythin...

It's me again ... i thought i could just as well write in here instead of opening a new thread: I read up a bit more and came up with a new system (yes, all by myself) CPU: i7 920 --> might upgrade to a new CPU with 6.2 instead of 4.8 in a year or two CPU-Cooling: Either TRUE or IFX-14 with 120mm fa...

RAM - Guide
Hi all, Wikipedia gave me some info, various other sides as well, but what i am looking for is a guide. Due to above, I do know a bit about ECC, buffered, latency etc. But when it comes to other stuff, i am lost. For example: - is a high clocked (1600, f.e.) or a lower clocked but with low latency b...

Reference design?
Hi All, I want to use a T-Rad2 for an ATI 4870 card. However, it is only confirmed to fit on the "Reference design". The next logical step was to ask the manufacterers whether their cards were using the reference design. I asked about 3 or 4 (Sapphire, Gainward ... ) and so far only got answers that...

Thermalright T-RAD2 vs. Scythe Musashi - quieter one?
Well, title: Thermalright T-RAD2: http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/t-rad2/product_vga_cooler_trad2.html and the Scythe Musashi http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/vga/002/scvms1000_detail.html Assuming 2x nice, quiet 92mm fans on the T-RAD2 (Noctua NF-B9 any good?). Whilst Scyth...

Thanks a lot for your input, guys. Reports have shown up that the „passively“ cooled 4850 actually needs a dedicated fan in order to avoid melting. As I want to be able to play games smoothly, downgrading the GPU is not really an option. Which means I need 5 fans at least (front/back case, CPU, ...

It is not that it is consuming that much power (matter of fact, it actually has speedstep for both CPU and NB, iirc. It is a go from gigabyte towards OC, the FSB can be pushed up to 500 pretty easily (and up to 700, if you believe everything on the internet to be true). So, the heatsink is designed ...

My first [quiet] build
Hi all, As you see from my postcount, i am rather new around here (been reading since a couple of month, though). My old system is/was a LC one, which seems awefully loud by now (loud pump, mainly, and a 360 radiator with non-pwm fans). Pretty much everything is outdated by now, so I am planning a n...
