Well, I'm hesitant to use the Scythe Quiet Drives because they're impossible to get down here in Australia, but also because I can only hard mount them in a Sonata II. Which means case vibrations.

Last Mile (I think, at least)

Okay, after about 10 or so cycles of identifying the loudest source of noise and replacing the part, I think I'm down to the last part. Here's the current setup: Antec Sonata II -Case Exhaust: Noctua S12 @ 5V -Fan Intake: Antec Tricool @ 5V High setting Seasonic M12II w/ Fan swap (Noctua S12B FLX w/...

Q: What if someone keeps voting over and over, how will you level the playing field?
A: Our system only allows a voter to vote once, validated by their email address.
I really hope they notice how silly that is. Email validation. Oh no.

So he actually took off the drive cage that is right behind the front fan, or did he place it on the floor next to the motherboard?

Hmm...I'd post a sound clip of the comparisons , but my phone mic is crap quality and my computer microphone's too good and blocking interference. With a scissors stuck in the EA500D, my computer is practically silent at night. The EA500D (both units) sound like a jet turbine at night. Well, a close...

Hmm...can't find the post edit function. Oh well, double post. The Altech guys tried to test the PSU for excessive noise in a room with a server going WHURRRRR in the background. So I ended up getting another rma just in case it was just that one, after a bit of argument. It's not night time yet, so...

OK, I just got in touch with Altech (Sole distributor of Antec in Australia, and the guys I have to deal with for RMA). They tell me that the "smart fan" is not a feature of the Earthwatt 500, thus I cannot RMA the thing on the grounds that it is ramping up straight away. However, they say, I can rm...

Earthwhat?! EA500D

I just RMA'd a whiny Smartpower 450 and got back a EA500D, which after a few searches on the forums tells me that it's a new one made by Delta rather than Seasonic. I also have a normal EA500 in the house and I must say I'm VERY disappointed with the EA500D. The 80mm fan ramps up to full as soon as ...

OK, I disconnected the fans and HDDs, then turned it on again. The noise was still there. However with all the main noise-making parts out of the way, I managed to pinpoint the general origin of the high frequency noise (my ears aren't that good at locating these kinda stuff :() It's coming from the...
