So... Why exactly would mid-range cards not be worth dualing as stated in the article?

I am pretty sure that is just an Accelero L2, which is the OEM version of the Accelero L2 pro with less mass and a different fan.
The OEM version is quite a bit louder if I remember the reviews correctly.

external DVD drives

My netbook (EEE 900A) has been ordered to do double duty as a media center/wireless access point. Therefore, it should be able to read and display DVDs (movies, pictures brought over by family&friends that have not gotten the hang of USB drives yet, etc.). There seems to be quite an array of USB-con...

that is an emotional response, something that is not based on science or factual information, so it is not relevant to your assertion that the HDT 1283 is a better cooler than the mugen 2 is. The reason I almost exclusively trust SPCR is because other websites tend to test coolers with the stock fa...

It would be thus fine to use this to generate heat for a heatsink test. This is the point here. Well, I am not sure if MikeC would want the organizational hassle to have one program for heatsink tests and another one for power estimation. I'd just say different , you could have that more optimized ...

Maybe it's not fully optimized for not-Intel platforms (like AMD), but as I've already said ;) it still outstrips Prime95 and everthing else as heat generation etc. on AMD platforms too. I do not dispute that. But it might be, that Intel CPU's are running at 100% with this program, and that AMD CPU...

The executable LinX uses is patched to run on not-Intel systems too. I've tested it on my AMD Turion laptop and it does outclass Prime95 on this platform too. ...err... "patched"? How? As far as I know, there is no way except a recompile to make the code use the full capabilities (and thus the full...

This benchmark should not be confused with LINPACK, the library, which has been expanded upon by the LAPACK library. Source: Intel Moreover, I'm not saying to use it as benchmark but as burn-test , this is what LinX does and it's probably the heavier burn-test you can run today... Prime95 is outdat...

My speakers are 8W each and the subwoofer 30W RMS power, so a total 46W. I believe the speakers are passive, since they are fed with only 2 wires. It is still sold (even if it's called "1284 EE" or whatever) and bought. And it still is one of the top contenders. So why is it a thing of the past? Just because it's "old"?

Is is correct if I say the following ? I just have one point. When running a quiet CPU cooler (let's say with a fan running at 7 or 9V), the higher the temperature rise over ambient, the warmer the air you have to exhaust from the case, ie the faster you have to run the exhaust fan(s), and the less...

I believe that the AC Accelero L2 Pro also fits the HD 4770 and can be found for around $15-18. It has a PWM fan, runs a bit cooler than stock and should be quieter. I use one, and it does fit (on the card, do not know about the case), and is very, very quiet, significantly quieter than the stock f...

So I gather, you do not have a problem with the speakers but with the sound output in general? In this case, especially if it increases under load, it seems pretty clear cut that there is some current/noise leaking into your sound output. Of course, to be absolutely sure you could try the speakers w...
