Q9450 is listed as supported on the ASUS CPU support page as of BIOS 0210.

BIOS 0210 is release BIOS for that motherboard. No incompatibility there, if they argue otherwise they don't know what they're talking about, or something else is going on (which they didn't explain fully)

I've had it for a year on single Irvindale 3.2Ghz Xeon (single core, HT, 110W TDP!). I have a Scythe Kama PWM on it, it's been working great, can't hear it over the many hard drives in the file server.
