Re: A 500GB 2,5" drive for "portable" storage
Ciao Luca (I'm italian too) Thanks a lotfor your reply... I usually read the articles here, just being lazy and never heard about the samsung. My choice is going towards the momentus 7200.4... Any issues about reliability in favour of the Hitachi 5k500? Never had any Seagate or Hitachi lately, just ...

Thanks a lot for your replies. According to what I've read, since this drive should be both silent and cheap, it's best to look at drives with higher areal density, so I'm trying to find infos on JUST single platters drives: 1) SINGLE PLATTER // 2,5" // 7200rpm - Seagate MOMENTUS 7200.4 (ST9250410AS...

the new F4EG seem to have a great combination of performance/noise/power... However 2 things: 1) I can't find any F4EG here in Italy 2) I don't need that much space (sure I'd buy one because of the good price) I've Heard that F4EG performs +20%better than F3, wow... Any alternatives? Will there be a...

Thanks a lot for the replies. dhanson865: thank for the suggestion... I have heard that "green" drives were not so good for OS drives but I think that if the performance loss (against normal 3,5" drives like caviar blue or black) is not that big... I think I'll go for the silent solution Parappaman:...

Suggestion for a quiet speedy small OS drive (not SSD)
Any suggestion for a OS drive (2,5"-3,5") which must be (in specified order) - small (just for the OS... about 100GB would be enough) - speedy - silent (as much as a speedy drive can be! not a priority) - much cheaper than SSD (I cant afford one...)! Here's a list, it is a w.i.p., to some of the mos...

5,25" docking station for a 3,5" hard disk: any si
Hi, I would like to mount my 1TB hard disk (which will be a WD green or Samsung Ecogreen) using a 5,25" docking station (that way I can use my hd either as an internal or external one) I know only about this one: Raidsonic ICY BOX http://www.raidsonic.de/data/products/icybox/IB-390StUSD/IB-390StUSD_...

Noctua NH-U12P can be mounted to make air flow to the back of the case... It's possible ordering a (free) kit from Noctua :D Any idea if it's possible to mount a 120mm fan to the front of the case? This way I could make an "horizontal airflow" from the front of the case - passing through the cpu coo...

- cpu cooler : Do you think it will be good to get one with a "tower" form factor, with a big fan pushing air outside, in the direction of the case fan which will push air outside too? This is typically the most effective configuration. There are some nice budget CPU coolers on the market that will...

thx psyopper, speedkar9, RoGuE... As I am on a low budget, I think I'll go gradually... and get the most with less :-) Option 1: - tricool lowest speed - swap left side panel with right side panel - do some cable management to minimize cable mess around the mobo - for the HDD, i'll go wd green or sa...

I started the topic with 3,5" drives in my mind.. but wouldn't it be useful to many of us to have a detailed and open discussion about GETTING 1TB SILENT STORAGE?

Antec NSK-4000 II vs NSK-3480
Apart from the presence of a PSU is there any reason to prefer a 3480 to a 4000 II?
NSK-4000 II seems a valuable choice in terms of cost-features, but I'm trying to understand if it's good for a silent pc.
Thanks.

@ryboto: small is GOOD.. but i'd like to have a flexible solution. For example, I like your antec but, for my needs, it's far too limited to have just one 5,25" slot... I'm yet searching and maybe I won't find the "ideal" but I would like to have room enough to put: 1) a 3,5" dock for a 2,5" drive 2...

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions! The best looking case I've found so far is definitely the Sugo SG05. Must have a good airflow too, thanks to the big fan on the front (and I could put one on the back too since I'm using a pico-psu instead of the built-in PSU... that would be GOLDEN for kee...

Hi, I'm planning a mini-itx system based on: 1) Zotac GF8200 mobo 2) AMD BE-2300 2) 2GB DDR2 800 3) 3,5" HDD : maybe a 1TB WD Green 4) 5,25" ODD 5) PICOPSU 120 Is there anything out there recommended for us silent people like the Lian-Li PC-Q08 or PC-Q07 but without the unneeded space for a standard...
