Re: Inaudible Silverstone FT-05 / 6700k / GTX1080 gaming/VR
I did a pretty similar build recently, and have similar low idle noise. Very nice build! Looks like you did a pretty neat job with wiring too (which is, IMO, the biggest issue with this case -- would it really have killed them to add 10mm to the width and given a little more room behind the mobo tra...

Re: Air Penetrator AP121
Good fan reviews are always hard to find, however, there is a comparison with other popular fans done by Matrinm210, who has a solid reputation: http://www.overclock.net/t/831994/fan-testing-round-4-gt-vs-noctua-vs-silverstone-vs-yate-vs-rosewill You have to watch the video (watch a high res, larger...

He said repeatedly they would rather deploy drives as is out of the box than to tweak the OS, over provision the drive, or mess with firmware updates. Hearing that makes me glad I don't work for Intel. I actually see this as a good thing (well, as a customer anyway), as it means they expect their d...

Don't go WC if you want very quiet... its only worth while if you want hot, overclocked components without it being very noisy. Keep in mind even ignoring the pump you still need fans (and usually a lot of them). Actually, thats not entirely true. You can have a (nearly) silent WC'd system... but it...

Thanks for the response. The symptoms are exactly the same as last time, which required a RMA... and I tried every suggestion and spent a long time trying various things, so I really don't expect any difference this time round (aside from the total lack of interest in spending lots of time on it thi...

A slightly OT update: -My OCZ Vertex which I talked about earlier in the thread got RMA'd about 2 months ago... but the replacement has started corrupting data in the same fashion as the original! Sending it back for RMA cost me about $40 -- not sure I want to do it again, am very tired of this whol...

The MoRa2 was very constrictive unfortunately, which made for a pretty low flow loop. I am not sure if they MoRa3 has fixed this or not... but certainly large surface area radiators are very nice! Personally I run a 140x3, 120x3 and 120x2 in a separate rad box with slow running fans... makes for awe...

This is the problem with talking about noise... everyone has a different idea of what is quiet. I generally can't hear my system, but I wont claim its silent! I live inner city, and have a pretty high ambient noise. That said, I do believe its possible to find very quiet pumps, but have no experienc...

Pumps tend to be very sensitive to how they are mounted. If its not completely de-coupled from the case, it will be very noisy. Also, people, especially people on overclocking forums (which are the most popular WC forums), call all sorts of crazy things quiet or silent... I've heard people say 2000 ...

several gallons of oil has a lot of heat capacity. While this is true, its not heat capacity thats the issue... its the rate that the heat would be transfered out of the oil that is the issue. Even a massive reservoir will heat up eventually with a very small heat load, if it is in an insulated con...

Not sure this is really a water cooling question so much as an alternative cooling idea.... its been done before, but it just seems messy to me! Also, I really don't think it would dissipate much heat, as you only have the surface area of the tank (which is small compared to what is provided by a ra...

There is exactly that. The Silverstone CMD01. It connects internally via USB, controls up to 5 fans, and has some included sensors, but when configuring it via NVidia System Tools, you can select at least the CPU (and GPU) temps -- dont remember if it sees the other motherboard temps or not. The dev...

The problem about the device in its current state is that it's quite loud. Granted, many electric fans don't have silence as their top priority, but it does have a distinct whining sound. The second thing is that if you look at the device, you see that whatever fan is in the base of the device is q...

You know, one thing kind of sticks with me: on the system I described at the beginning of this thread I'm definitely going to stick with AC on the CPU. But I'm going to keep considering a relatively simply WC solution on the 5770 - maybe a 2x120. I'll need to see how that fits my case, though. (Sil...

I have acknowledged in basically every post I have made on the topic, that WC is not cheap. Its hard to argue value for money compared with AC. But your test case is easy. My system is a Q6600 overclocked to 3.6Ghz, with appropriate vcore (I'd have to check). Using AC (a Tuniq Tower + stock fan, whi...

While I generally agree with Mike, I am going to have to respond to some of these points as they are incorrect, at least when applied across the board. 3. With heatsinks that have 10/12 "heatpipe paths"* into the fins, I think they actually move more heat more quickly than most WC systems -- except ...

Where WCing comes into its own, is when you want to OC and/or run very hot components, and still have some quiet. WCing also allows you to put the noisy components elsewhere (ie you could stick the pump and radiator outside your window, or in a closet, or another room or whatever, and just run the t...

If you have the room you should try shrouds, they can definitely help reduce that noise, although if its the grill rather than the rad (its probably both tho), it might not help so much. There is a replacement to the TJ07 coming out, called a (I think) TJ11, which has the space at the bottom but wit...

Can you please clarify exactly how you have the rads and fans? ie do you have: case ----- fan ----- rad (I hope that makes sense). If its like the above, its possible the case grill is generating some noise, and removing the grill can help both the noise and the air flow. If the fan is on the other ...

The silverstone CMD01 is pretty much exactly that. Its a 5.25" bay device, with no buttons/screen/knobs (and the actual circuit board is small and can be removed and mounted anywhere), that you connect via USB. Pretty much the same as T-Balancer etc, the difference is you can get it very cheaply (am...

I don't have experience with the Dual Top (only the single), but it appears to be identical (albeit with 2 pump slots) as the X-TOP. So it should perform the same, and EK's stuff is generally high quality. Mounting the top to the pump is very easy, unscrew the old top, and you have 4 pieces (pump, b...

You could also optionally rip a copy of the disc to your hard disk and load it with something like Deamon Tools from then on, so long as you're willing to part with some extra hard drive space. Most games that use cd checks will not work from an image, you'd still need the no-cd check. I try and bu...
