Re: SilverStone Fortress FT02 Revisited

It would be interesting to see to what extend the vertical airflow affects temperature.

Out of pure curiousness; could you test the case standing on its front so that the airflow becomes horizontal?

It's ugly... :?

I was also thinking about mounting 4*92mm (Nexus 92) fans in the front. I know it's not built for that, but with some cable ties it should be possible. But 4*92 may however not be optimal from a noise perspective.

Some questions regarding the Silverstone TJ-08E

For my next computer upgrade, this spring, I also plan to replace my old SOLO. I'm basically choosing between the SOLO 2 and the TJ-08E. The SOLO 2 feels like a safe choise since it has everything I like with my curret SOLO + the extra features that are the reason to my case replacement (more grapic...

Re: Improving airflow and cooling in old Antec Solo

A top cutout would act as a intake. I had no idea that would be the effect. Completely blows my mind! Does this change at all depending on the PSU design? Oh, that requieres the PSU to be mounted upside down with the fan facing the top. If the fan is facing downwards, as usual, or if it has a horiz...

Re: Improving airflow and cooling in old Antec Solo

Re-creating the top PSU vent of the new Antec Solo. "Hot air rises" so this helps getting rid of it around the PSU, right? Might lower the noise of the PSU since it will have cooler intake air. However, since the PSU fan always would force air downwards to the PSU, no hot air would rise out from it...

Very appreciated article. As a coincidence I was just planning a build more or less identical to this one (but build around an Ivy or BD).

There seems to be an error in the 240V test table; the AC power draw figures seems to have been swapped between the the two PSUs.

Have you tried running it without the CPU fan and/or the exhaust fan? Since the HR-02 is made with low airflow in mind, as you say, maybe the front fan would be enough to provide decent cooling.

Top vent with fine mesh for optimal PSU air intake Now that makes this case a bit more attractive. Now it's possible to build a positive pressure system since the PSU has its separate intake. But no word on filtered PSU intake? The top vent is visible here. Why hasn't it been shown before? http://u...

Did you updated the firmware of the F4EG? No, I've heard it's not necessary for drives manufactured after 2010.12 or 2011.01 or something. Mine is manufactured 2011.04. However I'm unsure about what firmware the drive currently has now; some programs (like CrystalDiskMark) says 1AQ10001 (which is t...

I bought an F4EG a month ago, and now it is reporting SMART-errors. It's something about spin up time. I've tried to run a "SMART self test" (whatever that is) but it fails and tells me that there is a major risk for data loss. As fas as I know, both the Antec Solo and the Fractal R3 are made of 0.8mm steel. The Antec Solo uses thicker 1.0 mm steel and it does also have plastic (not bitumen) sheets glued onto the walls for extra noise/vibration killing effect. It sounds like thick solid oak when I knock at the side walls ...

Re: Is 9cm front fan effective on Antec Solo

I used to have two NF-B9 (with U.L.N.A.) in the front of my SOLO. However, I removed them, but the temps of all component remained the same. The exception was the HDD (a SP2504C); its temp rose from 35-40 to 45-50.

Unless your system suffers from overheating, you don't need any intake fans.

The cards in the Antec 1200 case has higher temps on both cards, and higher fan speeds. The whole system is also 4 dBA louder.

I'm having similar plans for my SOLO, but instead I would use an X-400 fanless. I envision a 140*140mm cutout covered with a radiator grille.

As far as I know, pump-less solutions has been used to cool old car engines. The old Saab 92 (1949-56) had a passive watercooling system for its 2-stroke engine. It doesn't seem not physically impossible, but I guess cooling a computer is quite different from a car engine. Also found this on Wiki: h...
