Can you please give me an explanation why it won't work? Because of the heatpipes orientation issue, against which even AC, Prolimatech, Thermalright and the very same Silverstone advice. http://en.expreview.com/2010/11/15/90%C2%B0-rotationhow-to-install-heatpipe-cooler/11843.html/5 i ran the same ...

Re: System fails to POST. Motherboard failure?

what you are looking for here is the beep code that's present when you first turn on the computer... you should be able to pull the ram and still get a beep code. I don't have case speakers to generate the beep code. I have this cheapo chinese pci card that's supposed to display an error code, but ...

those caps do look suspicious, but caps in general tend to leak out the bottom.

intel has already fixed this issue, if you have a board with the bad silicon on it, you should be able to swap your mb for another one, with the vendor you bought it from.

Re: Temp01 Overheating - Rising to 100C+

speedfan doesn't tell you where those temps actually are, so it won't help... don't confuse the issue with it. the problem here is that you are assuming that something is overheating, when there is no evidence to back that up... everyone is off on a tangent, that isn't helping to fix the problem. if...

The solution, using 2 strips of foam/cardboard or whatever you've got lying around:

Re: Antec P183 vs Fractal Define R2

After some testing, I have figured out why it's noisier. The video card fan is spinning faster than before. It shifts between 1400-1700rpm because it is running hotter than before did you actually measure the speed when it was in the solo case? easy enough to prove that case airflow is a factor, on...

Re: 1920x1080 over HDMI to 32" TV output issues

i've made 1080p fit perfectly with two different computers, on several different tv's, but it wasn't intuitive. sometimes you have to do the tweaking on the monitor, and sometimes you have to tweak the video card... for instance, last time it was a monitor setting called "just scan", i think, instea...

Re: Best passive and quiet performance GPU for fortress ft02

Is it easy enough to replace the topfan and undervolt the bottom fans (can you control them like any other fan)? one option is to replace the top fan with a pwm fan, and tie it into the cpu fans, using pwm-compatible splitter cables... that way, it's only noisy when you need cpu power. i use an old...

If it helps, I'll be using premiere and photoshop to create/edit and manage videos. Does anyone know how core aware Adobe products are? Do you mention nvidia over AMD/ATI because of CUDA, or some other reason I'm not seeing. Just curious.
mostly cuda, but also better drivers.

you should be able to undervolt all of the fans, including the cpu fan, except for the video card.

with the proper undervolting, and the front door closed, it shouldn't be loud.

Hi, What is the best performance passive GPU for the fortress ft02? that's an oxymoron, sort of like "government intelligence" :) the only truly quiet fan setting on the ft02 is when the big fans are so undervolted that they tick for a couple of minutes on startup, and you've replaced and undervolt...

you can't "burn" an intel cpu, because they throttle way down at 100c, even to the point of shutting off.

i agree that the video card will be the biggest noisemaker, especially if you are using it for video rendering, ala premiere pro cs5, or photoshop cs5, which can also take advantage of the gpu... it's an intel/nvidia game, running anything amd in that scenario would mean more noise, more cpu heat, a...

wire fan grills are dust filters, so they serve a good purpose. I think there is a misunderstanding here. Those are wire grills and they really don't filter much (unless you count filtering fingers out of fans ;) ) : lol... he asked about the p183, which doesn't have any grills like that, but you m...

the p183 is a lot more porous, which avro alluded to. think about it, if the box was completely sealed, how would the noise get out? so of course the p183 won't be as quiet as the solo, it wasn't designed for that... true silent freaks can minimize the damage; seal the top fan hole off, remove the b...

If your TV is able to display a maximum resolution of 720p, then make sure the resolution on your laptop is set to output to the TV at 1280x720 (720p). great post. the moral of the story there is that you should always set the video card to display the native resolution of the monitor; win7 will re...

it's true that i was playing the devils advocate  but the inference in this review is that lian li made the "mistake" of putting filters on all of the top case fans that it sold, which was not logical. case manual, no mention of any filter on top: http://www.lian-li.com/v2/tw/product/upload...

those noctua fans are significantly louder than the ty-140's on the silver arrow, but some people are complaining about a ticking noise on the sa fans, and others can't get the sa to fit right in the p183. maybe replacing the d14 fans later is indeed the best way to look at it... i would not go with...

Re: P-183 discontinued... replacement P-183 V3?

On a side note, I find the P183 noisier than the SOLO it replaced, even when I turned off all the exhaust & intake fans and just kept the CPU fans (and video card fan since I can't turn that off) running. that is logical, given that the p183 is a high-performance case with much greater airflow capa...

those reviews are over a year apart, did they use the exact same measuring techniques in both? i'm guessing not, because i have a hard time believing that a 120mm fan blows that much more air, over a 140mm fan. also, if i remember correctly, the 140mm fan review did not test static pressure(?), whic...
