Re: Completely silent high-end/Gaming rig ... DONE !!!
...but it's impossible to build a completely silent gaming rig when you are forced to use GPUs like GTX680s or ATI 7970s. Actually, with the Hydro GTX680 and this build: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=62992 it can be completely silent. But like others who are visually sti...

Re: Custom Cases for Silence
If you really want a SILENT case... than you need to look towards having no moving parts. THAT, simply, is the source of all noise. This was my quest about a year ago. I found the radiators for the task, decided to make them my case material, but ultimately, to move water through a system... a high ...

1. How much do the (pumps) contribute to the noise? Dandalf, if I put my ear to within 3 inches of the PSU, I can hear a hum. Mostly, though, I think I know what I'm listening for. I do have these set to power setting 3 (of 5) although I've read other places that a setting of 2 is completely silent...

Thanks Frenchie! The system is treating me well... after some trials and learning curve: Turns out... the newest (recommended) drivers are not always the best! While trying to stress my system, I was noticing VERY lousy benchmark times ... in comparison to similar systems. Particularily in reference...

Re: Powerful but 'silent' PC build for image editing + video
To add to Chris's point, I've been through a series of testing to find the 'sweet' spot for voltage, speed and noise (thermal load of the hybrid PSU fan). Mostly, I'm finding is that it does come down to video card selection. As the OP has since commented, that he won't be needing video editing capa...

Re: Powerful but 'silent' PC build for image editing + video
- The CUDA thing is a myth. Adobe supports OpenGL. - Nobody ever sees CPU Burn or Furmark style loads in real life apps. The load when running the adobe apps should be in the 125-175W AC range. Steve, In Adobe Premiere, it's called MPE: Mercury Playback Engine. With CUDA supported cards, it give yo...

Thanks for the comments. Seb, the case is quite compact. The radiator extrusions come in 50x50x420mm pieces. I made them fit the ATX mobo width (305mm): 6 sticks, then as deep as needed for the I/O panel plus PSU: right at 150mm total for 3 sticks. The sticks are stiffened with aluminum sheets (rubb...

Re: Powerful but 'silent' PC build for image editing + video
I just built a similar system for the same demands - actually more for video editing also. (and maybe a game or two) I use the Creative Suite from Adobe and because of their 'partnership' with nVidia, I chose to use a GTX series card for the CUDA acceleration. Not sure if you'll add video to your ed...

I just wanted to share my newest build - happens to be my first custom watercooling rig. However, my quest was to get high end performance, but silent. I already have enough fans in several SuperMicrO server cases that would cause OSHA to demand hearing protection if I left them on all the time! I'v...

I have 15 of these drive in one of my fileservers. Using Lian Li A77 case - with 120mm fan per 3 drives. The drives are plenty quiet - the fans certainly make more than the drives do - and they are only at 1000rpm - barely audible. I have 14 drives active in RAID-6 with two hot spares off an Areca 2...
