Well it seems that there isn't a single slot solution. I think I'm leaning towards a 5750. I was going to tell you to give up on the single-slot quest, but it seems you've already come to the same conclusion. The only reservation I have is that it doesn't push hot air out of the case like the 5770....

ATI closed drivers are quite ok. Necessary to have full 3d support and power management features atm. I had lots of problems with them on 64-bit; maybe 32-bit is fine, or on a distro that does the 64/32 mix differently than mine (Arch Linux, which does not officially support that mix; they prefer t...

Was afraid I'd need some extra cooling for the 5850. But an extra undervolted Slip Stream can't increase the noiselevels too much. Careful with the VRM and RAM chips on that thing. I have an unused Sapphire 4870 sitting on my desk because the crappy VRM heatsink would not stay cool with TWO 120mm f...

I think I'd go with the CF as well. They are faster than SDHC cards by a good bit; even the cheaper Sandisk Ultra II cards whip almost any SD in read/write speed. This is why most higher-end DSLRs use CF cards. I have a Sandisk Ultra III in a USB reader that I'm using to build a boot drive for my So...

Couldn't you do positive pressure from the front on a P183? It has a really open front (with a door) and I believe you can have 2 12cm intakes up front and even one in the middle (behind the drive cage). Not really, at least not in the stock configuration. You have two 120mm front intakes, but one ...

Out of curiosity, what's so hard about DX11? Why is NVidia not supporting it yet? Is it just NVidia getting weary of Microsoft changing APIs like most people change underwear? I'd also advise you to check out Phoronix, as another poster pointed out. My experience? For what I did on Linux, ATI worked just fine, on a Mobility X1400 and a HD4870. ATI's problem is that their proprietary drivers, which have the best support for newer boards, are pretty much crap compared to NV...

I actually have a couple of Via C7 ITX boards. The onboard encryption hardware does work well, and is well-supported i...
