Re: Twin Frozr II Eyefinity Setup Without Using DisplayPort

Thanks for the comments, and the link to the AMD site that confirms you need either a display with DisplayPort or an Active adapter to have 3 or more monitors from the same R6870. It always struck me as strange why AMD/ATI went the DisplayPort route, considering the much smaller market of compatible...

Twin Frozr II Eyefinity Setup Without Using DisplayPort

Anyone here on SPCR got 3 monitors running off a R6870 using the HDMI and DVI connectors only? Reason being is that the only affordable 24" monitor out there with DisplayPort, the BenQ BL2400PT, has a GtG time that is a little slower than I would like, so I'd prefer to go with a BenQ G2420HD instead...

As I just posted in another thread, if I'm not gaming I can turn off the CPU and GPU fans completely, and rely on the air movement between intake and exhaust fans to passively cool those components. The Musashi running at full speed is no where near as loud as the stock fan, but even while gaming I ...

Generally speaking, the best tower coolers are better at cooling than the best top-down coolers. For a top-down to cool as well as a tower, the fan usually has to run faster. On the otherhand, you can fit a 140mm fan fitted top-down in a wider range of cases than a 120mm fan fitted tower cooler. Put...

Popped out to Akiba at lunchtime and picked up the Scythe Kaze Master Pro 3.5 ( KM03-BK-3.5 ) and the Kaze Server 3.5 ( KS01-BK-3.5 ). I've not used the 3.5" bay on my cases for anything for the last 3 years. About time I did. The KM03 will allow me to manually control the CPU, GPU, intake and exhau...

If only . ;) Unfortunately, that card's heatsink also doesn't work - too tall. Most heat pipes on heatsinks are 6mm in diameter. Add the height of the PCB above the mounting tang and the cooling fins above the heat pipes and it's well over 10mm, by my estimation (my calcs show the top of the heat p...

Wow. A lot went on. First, there's no reason to get a 5770 if you're gaming at 1280x1024, and there's no reason to get a 1920x1080 monitor unless you can run games at that resolution. Since I don't think your budget will stretch to getting both a new monitor and a new GPU, just go with a cheap 5570 ...

Choices, Choices

Now that I've got the majority of components of my new "silent" PC build , I'm left with just the "tuning" to get it to run as quiet as possible while not melting when I'm gaming during the hot summers, using GPU-Z and CPUID Hardware Monitor to records temps. This has led me to this forum, as the on...

After fitting the Mugen-2, I have about 15mm of space between the top of the HS and the case side.

I got everything built and into the case last night. While not exactly quiet, it's certainly a great improvement. Still fan noise, but it's directed more out the back of the case (which sits on the desk to the right of my monitor), although I have all the settings turned up while I confirm thermal s...

The Accelero S1 R2 uses 2 slots on it's own without a fan. Mounted to the 5770 you might be lucky and end up with a 3-slot graphics subsystem, but no fan, or a 4-slot if you fit a thin 25mm Scythe or Nexus.

This pic shows it quite well:

Yeah. ATI changed the reference layout on the Radeon 56xx and 57xx. The cards are shorter in length but taller in height. No idea why they did that. Most after-market GPU coolers won't fit on those cards. A 48xx is longer in length and shorter in height. So are the 58xx ones, but even the entry leve...

So I read the review of the 'raptor - who would of thought it? removing the IcePAK makes it so quiet - and will fit them using the elastic suspension system. Also, I mentioned the wrong PSU. I actually have a NeoPower HE 550. Definately the major sound sources are the GPU fan and the HDD's, so once ...

Hmm. I have a Scythe Ninja Rev. B in my Lian Li PC-6077B case. That's a 150mm HS in a 200mm case with plenty of room. Will be fitting a Mugen-2 (158mm) into my Antec Solo (205mm) this weekend. Both the 6077 and Solo have quite a bit of space behind the motherboard tray for cable management, so effec...

THG has a round-up of the latest graphics cards by price bracket . Anything on there will be better than your 7600GT. Go for the HD 5570 for around $70. You can get them passive cooled too, which is what SPCR readers usually look for. No need to upgrade your mobo at this time. Wait until you can act...

Good comments Seb. Let me expand on a few things and see if that triggers any further thoughts. From what I read, I was going to use the stock VRAM heatsinks, if the Musashi will fit with them still attached. I do have an old 5.25" fan controller. Not sure what make, but it allows me to control 4 fa...

The Devil's In The Details

I had grown tired of the noise my gaming/work PC was making, since I need to game in quiet surroundings and can't have the volume up much, so I scoured this site to size up what I would need to make my rig quieter. The guts is a M4A78T-E, Phenom II X3 720, EAH4870, Blu-Ray DD, and 150GB IcePAK, powe...

Thanks for the welcome. Tokyo can be stinking hot in the summer. And humid to boot! I was looking at the Shuriken because the placement of the NB and regulators on the mobo looks like they would be cooled by a top-down fan, but I'll take a look at the Mugen as you suggested. My 4870 is 240mm long, p...

Quiet Cooling Ideas For New PC

I used to run an Phenom X4 9500 system but it ran so hot that it was noisy as hell with all the fans going, so I decided to put together something better but quiter. Currently, all my parts are laid out on my dining table as I've yet to select a case. ASUS M4A78T-E AMD Phenom X3 720 ASUS EAH4870 G.S...
