Raid setup recommendations

I built a system with 1 boot drive (WD Black Caviar 640GB) and 2 data drives (WD green 2TB EARS) with the intent of building a RAID 1 on a Gigabyte P55A-UD3P motherboard. I installed win7 64bits first without activating RAID support on bios. Intel Matrix Storage drivers won´t install without it. Now...

adobni -- We haven't tested many 92mm fans recently, the Nexus is still our reference. You could try the new Scythe KAMA FLOW 2 92mm . There's one rated for 1200rpm... or go with the 1700rpm model for more headroom. Presumably you have a way of controlling speed. I can't find that one in the local ...

W/o a hot video card, the Antec Solo (or one of its twins in the Sonata series) becomes a viable option. It can fit any tall tower heatsink; pick one from the recommended list. I'd set it up with a Scythe slipstream on the back panel, a similar fan on the HS blowing through it from the front, and a...

Re: Antec Solo upgrade soon?

Some comments in the forums seem to imply that Antec is working on an upgrade to the Antec Solo. Does anyone know any timeframe for the new model to be released and if would it be worth to wait it? Hi Adobni, As far as I know, we are not working on any upgrades to the Antec Solo. We did however rec...

new antec solo

Is the Antec Proto http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MjM3Ng== the update of the Antec Solo case? I don't think so - it doesn't have the HD suspension system of the Solo, the HD silicone grommets, the cable management panel, or the dual layer panels. It's also much smaller. Looks more l...

I've heard some whispers that the Solo is going to be updated soon - lets hope they go for a 120mm front fan. And if they improve the filter access that would be good - but it's not a deal-killer if they don't, IMO. Is the Antec Proto http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MjM3Ng== the upda...

Re: pretty good

Well, I built this box and went with the recommendation of dbauer2000 and got the WD blue. A good recommendation as it turned out. The disk is speedy enough for what I want and it is quiet. Quieter than the WD Green and a lot quieter than a couple of Samsung drives I had in my old box. But it's the...

i would discourage the use of the solo cases, especially in a 24/7 operation, in part because the dust filter in front is hidden behind a fixed panel that requires you to remove the side of the case in order to pull the front panel off... it's an incredibly stupid design, and the filters are for 92...

Two PSU's I'm looking at now are the 1) Antec Basiq 550 2) Enermax Liberty ELT400AWT-ECO 400W These are two of the least-expensive modular , low-powered (for modular), 80+ compliant PSU's available that also have high-current 12V rails. I didn't think modular mattered until I had a really small cas...

It looks pretty solid, and should be all you need, 600W is a lot, but then again, finding something lower power and modular is near impossible. Modular seems the way to go. I'm partial to G-Skill RAM, but Corsair is also good. Generic brands I don't really see much in, I've also never been one for ...

Re: pretty good

The specs look good, the only change I would make would be changing out the WD Green hard drive to the WD Blue line. You get a true 7200 rpm drive for usually the same price. The power differences are really negligible in the grand scheme of the things and the performance slightly better. You'll be...

main drive recommendation

I'm planning to build a new system. My idea is to have a speedier disk as main drive (for OS, programs, boot, swap) and a couple of WD green EARS 1 or 1,5 or 2 TB in raid 1 as storage for data. In the future I may go for an SSD but right now I'm thinking of a HD with good performance but not to nois...

I have read reviews of this drive and while it didn't was the faster it seems to be reasonable enough silent. Its max size is 1TB.
What do you think of this hard drive?

I don't know about the PSU you chose, but the rest of your components seem to be matched well and you should be able to run it reasonably quiet. As an owner of the Green 1.5TB drive, I'm finding it's noise to be good, but day-to-day use performance to be seriously lacking compared to the popular 64...

Raid 1. I may add a third drive as boot drive or to go to raid 5 but I think I'll start with raid 1. ...
