A 45 nm CPU will run cooler than a 65 nm or 90 nm processor when both are running at the same speed. Not necessarily true. A larger die size, whatever the process resolution, can allow the more accurate build of the transistors which often results in more power efficient transistors and therefore l...

"Not every Q9550 runs on the same voltage." During the manufacturing process the 'chips' are tested and then built for different markets. It goes something like this: ==>server market - high speed, low voltage, low heat, highest reliability ==>notebook market - various speeds, low voltage, low heat ...

" the Q9550 doesn't downshift when idle" I thought that the Q9550 down shifts from 2.83 GHz (8.5 x 333MHZ) and 1.25 volts to 2 GHZ (6 x 333 MHz) and 1.1 volts when at idle. Generally you will get a bigger energy savings, and therefore noise reduction opportunity, by using IGP instead of an add-in vi...

The top of my p180 case resonates without the top fan running. I screen fans for vibration by placing them on a surface that will amplify the vibrations and then run them at a full 12 volts. You didn't say and so I am supposing that "I have the fans set to low" means you are using the Antec TriCool ...

I use only one Gelid Silent 12 PWM fan in the upper chamber of my P180 case. The top fan position is blocked off and air enters through the filter on the lower front and exits through the upper rear fan position. This single fan does double duty by both getting the heat away from the E2220 CPU and m...

"what is the safe loading level for one connector?" I've never had any trouble running 3 low current fans. Fans use approximately 1/2 the startup current when running. The stated current requirement on the fan's label is the worst case startup current draw. Mainboard manufacturers aren't making a co...

What I used to do: The rectifier diode adapter works well. I use a Zalman Fanmate ( $CAN 10) to determine the fan-rpm-airflow combo that does the job and then measure the voltage that the Fanmate is delivering to the fan. Then I build an adapter with the required number of diodes to get the voltage ...

My ASUS mainboard complained about the KAMA PWM fan that I tried to use with my Scythe Ninja cooler because the rpm went below 600rpm. The CPU fan failure alarm halted booting. I replaced it with a Gelid Silent 12 PWM type which operates from 750 to 1500 rpm. It's very quiet at 750rpm and pushes eno...

In my experience a 60x60x25mm fan has blades 3x wider than the usual 60x60x10mm fan and blows 3x the air for the same rpm.
I doubt you would regret upgrading to a new HSF with a larger fan. Perhaps something like this:

Both Western Digital and Seagate have branded versions of Acronis TrueImage. Both Seagate's Disc Wizard and Western Digital's Acronis True Image WD Edition are free downloads. They both validate by checking if you have one of the company's models of disk drive in the system. The qualifying drive doe...
