Thanks for the help, but I don't live in Sweden, I probably configured it so by mistake... I noticed that only now.
Where I live, the PSUs you just suggested are not available either.

Re: Seasonic SS-520FL2 vs. X-650
Thanks for the input. 1) I'll try to get myself to listen to the replacement unit, but I'm not sure it will be possible. 2) I don't have the option either to get a Seasonic X-650, listen to it in comparison to the SS-520FL2 and THEN decide with which one to go. I'll have to purchase it beforehand, e...

Seasonic SS-520FL2 vs. X-650
Hi everyone, Following a thread a opened up a few months ago in this forum, I purchased a new PC with the SS-520FL2 as the power supply. To my much dismay, the PSU is far from silent, and it emits a static, electronic buzzing sound. While it's far from loud, it's noticeable. Besides, a PSU that dema...

Re: CPU for a silent high performance PC - i7 4790 or 4790k?
1) I assume the die is same sized in both the 4790 and 4790K, right? 2) I guess as long as everything is installed properly, condition 2 will not exist, correct? 3) In conclusion - from a SPCR point of view, could the 4790K be placed in the Quiet ATX Gamer (R5 version) build, instead of the Intel Co...

Re: CPU for a silent high performance PC - i7 4790 or 4790k?
Thanks for the replies. I do have a video card. The main (actually, the only) thing that stops me from grabbing the 4790K is extra 4 watts in its TDP. Is that significant? Will it introduce hardships in cooling it silently? I'm modeling my rig after the recent "Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 version". I'll be ...

Re: CPU for a silent high performance PC - i7 4790 or 4790k?
Thanks for the input... that's a great link! I wasn't familiar with that great tool... Well, the K is faster but not by a considerable margin (I think). Since the price differences is not so big I might opt for it, but I'm just worried about the extra 4 watts to the TDP (totaling in 88w), that could...

Heavy multi-tasking, and some gaming.
But anyway I'm convinced I'm going with either one of those CPU's, question is - which one exactly.

CPU for a silent high performance PC - i7 4790 or 4790k?
Hello everyone, As in title, I'm looking to get one of these CPU's for a new build. I am certain that I'm not going to OC even to the smallest extent, but that's the reason exactly I'm eyeing the 4790K: It's 400Mhz faster at stock speeds. 1) Do you think that the additional horsepower worth the a-li...

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
That's quite disturbing. I'm having a hard time to decide between the two. I just noticed that the X-650 has its exhaust fan positioned on top, doesn't that mean that it will blow hot air directly towards the core components, essentially in the same way that hot air would rise from the SS-520 throug...

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
Sorry for the bump but a quick question: Can't I install the SS-520FL2 inside the Fractal R5, and through some DIY-action make my own heat-divider and partition the case?
(I think even a well-installed piece of closed cell foam might do the job...)

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
1) Is there currently a fan-cooled PSU that stands above all others in terms of silence (while being a reliable, quality one, of course)? 2) I wish my new PC to be at least as quiet as the new generation (black cylinder) Mac Pro's. Is that achievable with a fan-cooled PSU? (considering all other co...

Re: Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
Hi,
1) I was wondering if there's any reason to go for Platinum rating when choosing fan-cooled PSU? (considered that it should run cool anyhow...)
2) Is there currently a fan-cooled PSU that stands above all others in terms of silence (while being a reliable, quality one, of course)?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Fractal Define R5, so I'm probably better off with a fan-cooled PSU?
And I'm not going to overclock anything.

Thanks for the replies.
I read the article but still couldn't draw a conclusion. Help would be appreciated.
I'm planning to build the computer with pretty serious components - Core i7, at least two HDD's, and a Radeon HD5870 (which USED to be serious).

Seasonic Platinum 520w (SS-520FL2) - Recommended?
Hello! I'm building a new PC with the hope of it being silent. Should I opt for the Seasonic Platinum 520w if I look for the ultimate silence? It sure would not yield any noise due to moving parts or fans, but what about electric 'whine'? I've heard some reports about these units producing such nois...

Quiet PCs and dust
Hi! If a computer contains no parts that move air (i.e., fans), will it collect dust? By writing "components that move no air" I'm not referring to other moving parts, like HDDs. I'm interested in quiet PC that which will probably be fan-less, although it will contain several hard drives (NAS), so I...

How is the Lian Li PC-V1110?
I think I've found the perfect case, looks wise. Lian Li PC-V1110A (I am interested in the silver model only!) http://lian-li.com.tw/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=210&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=62&g=spec It's stunning, in my opinion - it's very solid, elegant, minimalistic. Very understa...

Most recommended 500GB HDD currently available?
Hi there. I am looking for a new 500GB (or 640GB) hard-drive to accompany my new build. It is going to be a system drive, and it will store my OS, applications, and games. I want it to be silent, and a good performer as well. Should I go with a 7200RPM one? I know 5400RPM would be quieter - and cool...
