Re: Not just "silent" - zero moving parts rig [pic

Look how large the Orochi is! I had to use a wire tie to tie it to the top of the case to support some of its weight. How exactly did you tie it? You can see the wire tie in both pics - it's the white thing at the top. I simply strung it around one of the heatpipes, then twisted it around the fan g...

Do you think that these would do okay with a CROSS blowing fan without the fan on top? I was thinking of using the 2 120mm fans to blow INTO the case across the heatsink. That's not how they were built. They have way more top surface area than side surface area. Moreover: see those vertical gaps? T...

Re: My Scythe Orochi short story (install + mini-review)

Hi. Theres a thread somewhere asking if the new Scythe Orochi would fit in the P180. The measures I have are 194mm for the height of Orochi Where did that come from? Here Scythe lists 155mm for the height: http://www.scythe-eu.com/forum/orochi/426-orochi-dimensions.html Maybe you were thinking leng...

OK I get it: it was a "staged" picture to show how it would fit, but the cooler was not really attached to the motherboard.

Whether it's better than his previous cooler is of course debatable (my guess: yes it is better).

X-bit labs has the best review roundup IMO http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/thermal-interface-roundup.html Thanks! That was very helpful. In fact, it is the only thermal paste review I have seen so far where they actually use a quad-core. I see a staggering difference between my inc...

since AC5 is slightly thicker it doesn't come off as easily as STG-1 but its not terribly hard to remove. It glues well CPU on die so you may need to twist hard and use relatively well strength to remove cooler that has AC5 burned in fully. That doesn't sound like something I really want in my comp...

Re: My Scythe Orochi short story (install + mini-review)

Highly interesting. I need some more info to understand that picture: The orochi cant fit this way on my board. But if someone had the time to cut some bits out or has a motherboard with CPU slot that sits closer to the front a little then it'll fit. *(It'll be tricky to put the motherboard back in ...

Orochi review

I guess anyone who wants to read a review of the Scythe Orochi can read one at x-bit labs: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cooler ... rochi.html

Thermal compound comparison?

Is there a current review of some good thermal compounds somewhere? Currently I want to attach a cooler whose baseplate is made out of nickel-plated copper onto an AMD P2 CPU. I got a small package of "Sil More Taiwan" with the cooler. I wonder if "Arctic Silver 5" or "Arctic Silver Ceramique" or "O...

Re: Will 8GB of RAM sticks affect my HSF airflow?

I am considering upgrading to 8Gb of Corsair XMS2DHX RAM. My concern is whether my Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + fan will have its airflow affected since it is very close to the RAM sticks. Well, you already have 2 RAM sticks in there, and putting in another 2 will just fill the gaps between the...

Zero moving parts. No fans, no spinning hard drive. Very well done. Look how large the Orochi is! I had to use a wire tie to tie it to the top of the case to support some of its weight. How exactly did you tie it? After all, those heatpipes and aluminum plates don't seem to be built to be pulled at.
