Re: Current 80mm fan suggestions?
First. Consider changing cases to one with 120mm fan slots. There are really good ones out there and you can even get good cases on the cheap second hand. You would most definitly gain alot both in performance and in cooling levels. We need to be past the point where having a quiet PC necessarily m...

Re: Current 80mm fan suggestions?
I find myself looking for a new 80mm PWM fan for use as a case exhaust fan. I have one of the Nexus SP802512H-03PWM fans in another machine. It's not bad; but it could be quieter. Has anyone tried the Arctic Cooling 80mm PWM fans? They seem to have two offerings: one with ball bearings and one with ...

Performs well
I've put a couple of these in my SG03 that houses an Asus Rampage II GENE motherboard. They perform pretty well--especially given their speed/noise level. I've tried quite a few fans in this case; and the AP121s do a better job of cooling my north bridge that some fans that were spec'd to move twice...

A bit classier and more durable than cardboard; and still pretty easy to work with.

The RV03 is...less than dignified. But I really like the FT03. I think it's the most clever Micro ATX case I've seen since the SG03. And unlike the SGO3/04, it looks like it has a chance of alleviating the cooling problems that most Micro ATX designs tend to magnify. I suspect I'll be getting one of...

I voted for the Noiseblockers, too. I've actually already got a couple of M12-P fans (mounted for intake) and they're pretty quiet. I think most of the noise I hear from them is actually wind noise introduced by the filter screen they draw air through. But another fan I'd like to see reviewed that n...

Have you looked at Lian-Li's mid-towers? Several of them sport a similar internal layout with the PSU on the bottom; the PC-9 and PC-B10, for example.

Whoops.

One more thing I came across - the idea of higher velocity of air through the case. Basically, with all cooling components being the same, the smaller case would replace the air inside the smaller case more quickly. Basically giving you better cooling performance which may let you slow down your fa...

Re: Smaller cases better for quiet computers?
Well, I've recently come across information which seem to suggest that by using a smaller case is better for a quiet system than using the same components in a larger case. All other things being equal, that might be true. That is, if you're moving the exact same components from a smaller case to a...

Please let me know if you know of any good ones. It's straying farther from your stated budget, but the SilverStone LC11 seems worth pointing out. The Apex ones looks good but the reviews don't seem to be that good. Have you used them before? I have not. Are there any other choices in that form factor? The other mini ITX cases I've seen in a similar form factor seem to offer, at most, one 3.5" bay. You could move up to a slim micro ATX case. ...

I would like to know what my Case choices are. I would like a good looking slim case if possible. $100 would be the max I would like to spend on the case. I don't think there are too many slim mini ITX cases that will accommodate two 3.5" drives. How slim is "slim" for you? The Apex MD-100 looks li...

2: "Lifetime" warranty makes me a bit suspicious. It all depends on interpretation. One way of interpreting it is to say: "So, the DIMM is dead? Then it's life, and thus lifetime warranty, is over!" This is just disconnected from reality. A manufacturer who operated under this interpretation would ...

Re: Would I be insane to use a Core i5 for a NAS device?
Silly.
Even a low end (by modern standards) CPU is going to spend a lot of time waiting on the I/O subsystem even during heavy disc activity. If you want to provide additional processing power for I/O operations, a dedicated hardware RAID card is going to deliver a better ROI than a powerful CPU.

IPX7A-ION: 8 GB of RAM?
According to the spec sheet that's included with the IPX7A-ION, this board will support up to 8 GB of RAM.
