Ok now you need to start reading and stop assuming things. ;) I've never said that they need cooling. I said that they interfere with a normal flat heatsink, making the thermal conductivity bad. Thats it :) The reason why 4870 / 58xx / 5970 uses the Volterra setup is due to their ability to be soft...

The inductors are the 3 components under the 'CPL2-3' marking, probably the same type as the other ones marked R23. The components you market with red are IMO too small to be power capacitors, so they shouldn't require extra cooling. Does the stock cooler provide cooling for these? If so, then they...

@Rushdie: no offense meant, but your voltage regulation terminology may confuse some people. AFAIK: - the Volterra chips are playing the same role as discrete Mosfets, so I presume they integrate 2-3 Mosfets, which makes them even hotter than discrete ones. None taken. :) - if you happen to know th...

Well, as you've found out, its the volterra vregs that are the hardest ones to cool. Not just because they get hot, but also due to their small size and possible interference from caps/resistors close to them. The resistors* are about 0.5-1mm higher than the vregs and if you mount a flat heatsink on...

Just double check that the accelero fits your graphic card, especially if you have the older G80-based core (320MiB or 640MiB). I'm guessing you're running water cooling on the chipset as well? The stock cooler (that heatpipe thingy) isn't that great; loud fan with annoying characteristics. Have you...

Nice! Awesome. Only one question about the power splitting. Does the pico offer any regulation of the 12V line, or does it just run it straight through? If it actually controlled it that would be one reason to use all power through it. Otherwise, again, awesome looking :D Thanks alot! The pico doesn't do...

Walnut wooden case (tons of pics!)

Hi A friend of mine asked me a couple of months back if I could build a new computer for him. I said sure, being the nice guy I am. After some debating on what components were needed, what could be salvaged and whatnot, the idea of using an small form factor was born. Now, since the guy is actually ...

Guys, how do you remove the gpu heatsink? I can't for the life of me figure it out. I want to take it off and put some Arctic Silver 5 on it. Thanks! I'm more concerned about the height than the fan bay on the side. I think I would take those out anyway and just use the Shuriken as a whole-system cooler. Anyone know the height the 9300 + Shuriken? -Jim 70mm or 2.75in. (thats from the highest soldering points on the back to the 13mm fan on the bi...

Without access to an ISK-300 I can't tell for sure, but judging from pictures of it (like the ones posted here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article959-page3.html ), it may not fit with the 2x80mm fan bay mounted. The Big Shuriken extends some 10mm (or 20mm, if you have the heatpipes pointing that ...

Hello Its called a "4 pin Floppy Power Connector" Did you read my post? I said "it is not a Berg / FDD-connector" :) The pin spacing match, its a standard 2.54mm. But the keys don't match. Anyhow, it appears to be a JST EHR connector, used in battery packs, amongst other things. They seems to be ha...

What's this connector called?

Hi On the PicoPSU there is a connector that is used for the molex+sata-cable. It looks like this: http://rushdie.mine.nu/pics/unknown_connector_qqsuyv.jpg It is not a Berg / FDD-connector, even if the pin spacing match (2.54mm / 0.1in). I would be most grateful if someone knows what it's called. Per...

SPCR might be over the top, but you need someone that is more hardcore than yourself to provide you with the right facts. With these facts, you can make your own conclusions. Say you have two fans, FanX rated at 60cfm@30dBa, and FanY rated at 50cfm@32dBa. Now, a layman would surely choose FanX. No o...
