Re: Fractal Define R3 USB 3.0 upgrade kit

I bought and installed the upgrade kit about a month ago. The design flaw and cable issue is still there, so either Fractal Design aren't listening/haven't made the necessary changes, or I got a kit from an older batch. Unfortunately, my guess is it's the former. With the impending release of Thunde...

Cheers, Andy!

Thanks for the linkage too. Interesting stuff. The second article seems like another boot in the nads for the "drugs are bad, m'kay", squad.

In an attempt at quid pro quo, I'd recommend reading 'High Society' by Ben Elton. It makes some good points I felt.

@GamingGod I sympathise with your condition(s). I have suffered from clinical depression for the last five years now. For a little light relief on the subject of the war on drugs check out the late Bill Hicks - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy-y-uamSiE One of the great comedians IMHO. I still have five of his albums that I listen to. I am also a firm believer that if Cocaine (among others) became legal, restricte...

Not the stuff from boots.............................. Not bloody likely. Case Steel thickness 0.84mm(approx) Dampening material 2.8 mm (approx) I used a dial micrometer on the Steel case and a Vernier Calliper on the dampening material. Total thickness would be the sum of the above i.e. approx 3.6 mm to 1 decimal place This is why I like SPCR. I have no idea what a dial...

I bought the R3 last month but never thought to state as much on this thread . That you did reply is greatly appreciated though. In my case it's because I don't see any sign of RAM coolers on it. I'm impressed that they kept all the chips on the cool side, but without heatsinks I'm not interested. It's funny you should mention that. I've just started reading another review on the 6870 DirectCU, and there aren't any RAM heats...

Why not get the Xfx 6870 that already has the twin turbo pro on it.. Re: What's the best thermal paste available today?

From the TIM round-ups that I've read, the difference between the many good quality products seems to be 1-2*C at the most. The best idea seems to be to go with one that is affordable and gives you the most for your money. That may differ depending on where you are in the world. The MX-4 that Fire-F...

I have to agree. I've never used Asus products before now but the DirectCU was too hard to pass up at that price. Especially as it came to just over £162 with P+P, and it will be less than that if Asus come through on the rebate. There's no way that I could buy one for that price over here. In fact ...

Which 6870?

I'm looking at getting a 6870 for my next rig, but am slightly uncertain as to what would be the best option. Originally I was thinking about getting an XFX 6870 and quieting it with an aftermarket cooler (probably the Twin Turbo Pro with VR0001 heatsinks), but lately I've also been considering the ...

I know the restart wasn't caused by heat, because I researched the issue and there were other people on the Steam forums that had the same problem with the game. Are your room temps the same? Is the air flow blocked/impeded around the case? Room temps are the same. I've noticed recently that my temps have changed slightly, though I can't figure out why. The temps in question are the system/MB and the HDD. This is the advanced case. It's a nice case and very good value for the features it has. Not sure that the price comparison makes sense, as the Mugen's PWM fan is excellent; there's no need to change it. I think I may have worded things wrong. The Mugen costs about £36 and the Ultra 120 + 1 Nexus fan would cost about £38. Sorry about that  Thanks for the info on the thermal paste...

Thank you for another great review. I'd previously planned on buying a Mugen 2 for my next rig, but after seeing the result for the TR Ultra 120 today, I'm thinking it may be be the better option. According to the Arctic Cooling website the Twin Turbo Pro will work for either of the two cards you mention, but it states that you have to buy the VR001 set of heatsinks if you plan on using it on a 6870. They're not expensive but it is an additional cost to factor in if you go the 6870 route. htt...

Ordered two 80mmm Red Wings yesterday, and they turned up today. At present I have them running at 40% using speedfan, and that's about 580rpm. I had to unplug one of the front Nexus 120's so I could plug both fans into the splitter cable. Airflow seems good, though GPU temps are 1-2C warmer. Nothin...

They simply suck, from a silence perspective: moderately noisy, they are just unusable for any SPCR advised reader. Is it possible that you just got a bad fan? I'm not questioning your judgement, but from the reviews I've read by people that own them, the only thing being disputed was airflow. They...
