Q: Does the Scythe Quiet Drive fit in Antec 2480 HTPC case?

Dear all, This XBit Labs review was recently mentioned on this forum, and it says the Scythe Quiet Drive has a "extreme length" of 198mm, and that it may not fit inside some cases. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/hdd-silencer-cooler-roundup_4.html#sect0 Does the Quiet Drive fit insi...

@Parappaman: The Arctic Fusion 550R uses a PWM controlled 80 mm fan, which several reviews say is nicely quiet. I think I'm going for the Artic, since I can find it at a fair price, and it's a Seasonic OEM like the Corsair VX and other well-reputed PSUs. But I worry about the 80 mm fan. If it used a...

Thanks for the tips so far. :-) I've read up on the Artic 550R and I've read the mini-review of the BeQuiet! L7 300 in this forum. I have found a shop here that has the BeQuiet! in stock, and at a very low price. The BeQuiet! looks attractive -- it's available here, it's cheap, and it uses a 120mm f...

Q: Good PSU for HTPC with excellent retail availability?

Dear forum members, I'm looking for a PSU for my next HTPC. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding most of the SPCR recommended PSU's where I live. I'd like the Nexus NX-5000, but it's not available here. :-( So I'm looking for suggestions for good PSU's from brands with good availability in E...

way to switch up the HDDs while keeping the foam mounting scheme Is foam on the under-side of the HDD attractive for a reason I don't know of..? I thought that soft-mounting the HDDs with thick rubber bands (O-rings) would be fine. Suspended in O-rings the HDD could have airflow from all sides, whi...

2 quick comments about wooden cases in general: a) There is an issue with wooden cases, they do not shield against electromagnetic interference, a.k.a. EMI. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_interference ) Now, I've run PCs without a case around them for years, and never had any issues ...

Hi there, I have the Sileo 500 case.. I assume you've read the review http://www.silentpcreview.com/coolermaster_sileo500 ? I like the design. Basic, no-frills black. It has the company name written with white letters at the top, and the front ports have a little color coding on them -- but other th...

As I read the PDF at http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/A ... 701250.pdf there are 2 drives:
WD10EVDS with 32 MB cache and
WD10EVVS with 8 MB cache.

The drives do not appear to be the same as the EVCS; or am I getting this wrong?

WD10EVDS, new "best" 1TB silent HDD?

Based on the tips I got in another thread on this forum, I'm researching 1TB harddisk drives. I'm looking for a quiet solution , not performance. I think the WD 1 TB AV-GP "WD10EVDS" looks promising; it is a 2-platter 5400 RPM 3.5" drive. Specs are here (Specifications -> download PDF): http://www.w...

Thanks for all the good tips and info that I have received. :-) Now I'm thinking: * One 3.5" Seagate 2-platter 1TB drive , Barracuda LP ST31000520AS. (I would have liked 1TB Samsung F2 EcoGreen, but they are not available where I live.) * One Scythe HDD dampening box , either Quiet Drive SQD-1000 or...

Sorry, my mistake, I meant the "Samsung F2 EcoGreen HD502HI". Thanks for the tip, as said, a 5 1/4" drive box is not ideal for me, but I may consider it...

Q: Very most quiet way of getting 1 TB (or 2x500GB) storage?

Honored Forum, I'm new here, but I have been Googling and reading SPCRs reviews extensively... I'm looking for 1 TB of storage; it must be QUIET; performance is not important; 1 TB of SSD's is not an option due to the price. It could be a single drive, or it could be 2 smaller drives, whatever is mo...
