Re: Mounting bracket for 2.5" SDD in Antec Solo

Placing it behind the motherboard tray or HDD cage (jammed in among the spare PSU cables to hold it in place securely) would be another option. Blu-tack, velcro or double-sided tape would also work great if you'd prefer to mount it in plain sight. :) Velcroed to the bottom of the 5.25" bays: http://...

i7 4770K, Z87-based mobo, and GeForce 750 TI card. I did a similar build for a mate using an i7 4770 and GTX750. Went with a Seasonic G360. :) Will the 550 spend more time in fanless mode? Theoretically yes, only by a little though. Does the idle draw of the 550 make it less efficient in the long r...

Re: re-using an older case with a new CPU cooler?

Those standoffs look pretty standard, maybe even a bit shorter than normal. I don't think many, if any, cases come with shorter standoffs. Some high-end cases like the TJ11 use even taller standoffs. I still think you'll be absolutely fine, and if Coolermaster had made the backplate lower profile, I...

Re: Sound Dampening Foam for Antec Case

* Acoustipack * Peel and stick vinyl tiles (mass damping) You should really deal with the components one by one though. The P180 Mini won't magically make a noisy PC silent, or even quiet. It should be seen as a final step to making a very quiet rig silent, or a noisy rig just a little bit quieter. ...

Why not use the pico-PSU in the ATX case? Just zip-tie the power brick where the ATX PSU would otherwise have gone. :) http://www.silentpcreview.com/article947-page3.html Why do mini-ITX cases have to be on a desk anyway? It's just a matter of desk design IMO. For example, at my local bank I see the...

What are your load temps like?
Do you use a top panel on the case?
If so, do you leave a ventilation hole for the CPU heatsink, or is it unnecessary?

Yeah I think you're right that the NH-L9 will fit ok, as the whole case is 62mm thick, so that allows a bit extra for the motherboard and motherboard standoffs. :)

Re: About Morex 557

Looking at that photo, the I/O backplate seems to fit the regular size, so no need to get a thin-ITX board. However, the side fan mounts are for 40mm fans, so the 37mm tall NH-L9i/a may not fit.

Re: GTX 750Ti sips power

That reused Saphire passive cooler performs surpirsingly badly as well. 80C is hot. At least it was properly fanless. :) I think his poor temps may have been because of the orientation of the card -- vertical instead of horizontal. Nonetheless, 80 degrees with minimal clock speed throttling is stil...

How about the Scythe Samurai ZZ instead? Amazon has it for $36. I've used it before, and the stock 92mm fan is nice and quiet when kept at low-ish speeds. As a bonus, even when used on mini-ITX boards that have the CPU socket squished against the PCI-e slot and RAM slots, it doesn't overhang either...

Re: Replacement for stock cooler for i3-3225

How about a case fan zip-tied to the stock heatsink (remove the fan and plastic shroud)? One idea that I've heard of in the past but can't find the photos of, is to cut off the stock fan, but leave the black plastic vertical struts in place. Then get a quiet 80mm case fan, and wedge it between those...

Zip-ties would be great. Twist-ties (the kind that come with garbage/rubbish bags) would be good as well.

Here's 2x 120mm fans attached to an Accelero S1 with twist ties. Makes the graphics card (290mm/11.4" in length) look tiny! :D

I'm interested to see if there's a non-destructive way to remove those PCI-e cables. :) Have you considered just tucking the PCI-e cables between the PSU and the 2.5" cage, right against the edge of the case? They would hardly take up any room, and besides, you'll have to run most/all of the other P...

Re: re-using an older case with a new CPU cooler?

The whole motherboard cutout thing baffles me, anyway. It's much more convenient for me to install the CPU cooler and RAM on my work table than it is to do it inside the case. I think the only people that truly benefit from it are reviewers and perhaps people that want to retrofit a cooler later on...
