Re: Best HORIZONTAL mount CPU fan? Benefit of PWM if availab

The Nexus has done an excellent job for the last two years, so I decided to get another ($14 including delivery at Newegg) while I wait for the SPCR roundup/review on PWM fans.

Thanks to everyone for the replies,

Best HORIZONTAL mount CPU fan? Benefit of PWM if available?

I have been using a Nexus Real Silent D12SL-12BW 120mm fan (sleeve bearing design), mounted horizontally, on a Prolimatech MegaShadow CPU heatsink for about two years. Recently it started making noise, so it may not last much longer. It's a 1,000 rpm fan, with 3-pin connector, connected to a Nanoxia...

Hi Scott, I just threw a HUGE edit above your post - I was trying to get it in before you replied. I just ordered the Bionaire - I'll let you know how it performs. This is for a 2nd floor bedroom. A little 'white noise' is OK, but I find it really difficult to sleep with the Honeywells - even on lo...

Off topic, sort of. Any SILENT "window" fan recom

Does anyone recommend a brand of window fan that runs silent at the higher speeds? Yes, I mean the kind of fan that goes in a window of your house or apartment, NOT in a computer :D We don't have central air conditioning, and the fan I have for the window sounds like a leaf-blower, even at low speed...

Here is the last sentence of the first page: " The board doesn’t have any COM or LPT ports, which may be worth keeping in mind, but it is no longer a drawback these days anyway ." The scoundrels! I bought my HP Laserjet 5P in 1994 and it won't die! I just buy a new $70 cartridge about every two y...

The Motherboard does not have a traditional parallel printer port Forgive my dumb question, but are you sure that it doesn't have an LPT1 cable connection on the motherboard? With my latest MB, I had to purchase a bracket with the a cable that connected to the MB. I thought that I'd ask, just to ma...

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Sorry I don't have any answers though. I suspect the answer (if there is one) would apply to any printer that is not compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. It SHOULD work fine in WinXP Mode, the problem is that the computer doesn't "recognize" that the pr...

Can I use HP LaserJet 3100 with Windows 7 64-bit (XPMode ?)

I wasn't sure where to post this Thread. When I found this Forum and started posting here a few months ago, I was building my first PC. It's working great, but so far, I can't use my printer. The Windows 7 Compatibility website SAYS that the HP LaserJet 3100 All-In-One laser printer IS compatible: h...

Hi Scott, According to the manufacturer's specs, it should be 11.5V. Honestly, I doubt that number but I cannot give you another one. I haven't tried measuring it. However, this fan doesn't push very much air even at full speed, and I'd say it quiet enough for most systems. I run it at full speed w...

Instead of waiting for that massively expensive cooler to come out, you could give a shot to Accelero TwinTurbo Pro. It should fit with enough clearance, and the two fans are known to be silent and still move enough air at lower speeds. Hi Parappaman, I looked at the Accelero TTP, but I don't think...

What about the Scythe Slipstream Slim models (120x120x12mm / various rpm)? The Scythe Setsugen VGA cooler comes with a 2k rpm version of the Slipstream Slim (undervoltable via an included controller to 800rpm). There is also a 100mm version of this fan. Re: Modify fan housing for cramped spaces: cut, sand, swap g

1. Cutting about a 1.5" to 2" section (or an air pass-through slot, if cutting out a whole section would compromise the integrity of the fan housing) out of the fan housing on opposite sides (i.e., top and bottom, or left side and right side) to allow air to enter the fan from the sides. Are any of...

I measured the distances, and if a 120x120x25mm fan was mounted across the edges of the video cards, a 1/2" above the video cards blowing down toward the MB, it would leave about 1.0" of space to draw air between the fan and the case wall (or window, in this inst...

Modify fan housing for cramped spaces: cut, sand, swap guts?

WANTED: a 100mm or 120mm fan with a shorter profile (e.g., 12mm or 20mm instead of 25mm thick), with enough airflow for a VGA heatsink, that is also quiet. There don't seem to be many good options, so I've been thinking about modifying a high quality 'standard' case fan. The problem I'm trying to a...

I'm working on a video card heatsink/fan problem, where two 5850s are run in crossfire, each with its own aftermarket heatsink and fans. The PCI-E slot spacing on the EVGA Classified motherboard makes it possible, but it's still going to be a tight/cramped fit. If my measurements are correct, a 25mm...

Hi Scott, Most 3-pin fans need more voltage to start, than it takes to keep them going. I would determine whether you actually need a fan in that location, and then if you do, I'd look at running it from a motherboard header that is thermally controlled. Fewer fans means less noise. It doesn't seem...
