Re: Need advice on RAM: low voltage? How many sticks to get?

Oh, btw, would there be any issues running low voltage RAM on a H67 motherboard? I have the P8H67m-Evo. I dunno why I'm concerned but just want to be sure... I guess because I know people adjust voltages when OCing (I really don't know much about it), but the H67 can't do any OCing, so... ? Also, do...

Re: Need advice on RAM: low voltage? How many sticks to get?

Great, thanks for the help, guys. 2x4GB sticks it is, then. Btw, I actually found a review which specifically tests low voltage RAM and its impact on both power consumption and performance and provides some real numbers. It's by Tom's Hardware, and as usual, there are more charts than I want to see,...

What is this H3 case you're talking about? And can't you just get a wireless adapter that either goes into one of the PCI/PCI-e slots, or one of those external ones that plug into a USB port? They're pretty cheap...

Re: Gaming TJ08-E + i5 2500K + GTX580

Thank you. :) Interesting. If you were expecting lower idle, like the MiniMi build, remember this has a GTX580 even at idle low clocks it consumes a lot and the PSU isn't as efficient as picoPSU at low loads, but this build wasn't meant for power saving, but for gaming. I gotta admit, I was a bit su...

Re: Need advice on RAM: low voltage? How many sticks to get?

Thanks. Well, I'm neither going to overclock, nor undervolt. But, I still need to know: 1.) whether there is a difference in getting 2 modules of 4GB RAM vs. 4 modules of 2GB RAM. 2.) How much impact there is in getting low voltage RAM (which was made that way by the manufacturer, not undervolted by...

Re: Coolest and lowest power draw Mini ITX H67

Intel motherboards appear to be the best at power consumption, hands down. Second place is ASUS, from what I've read. Check out this review, for example: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=632&Itemid=69&limit=1&limitstart=15 Here are their specs: http://benchmarkre...

Need advice on RAM: low voltage? How many sticks to get?

First of all, I am running a 2500k (not overclocked--just got the k for the better iGPU since I won't use a discrete card). I want to get a new set of RAM, 8GB total. I am concerned with performance AND power consumption. First, is it better to get 2x4gb or 4x2gb? I thought that having 4 sticks woul...

Re: Why does my SB system use 2x more Watts than in SPCR rev

So, does anyone know the answer to this? 1.) Regarding case fans. First, question : when SPCR did that review, can we assume that they had no case fans? Were they using a test bench or something, rather than a real case? Can we assume this because they did not report any case fans in the spec sheet?...

Awesome, thanks for all the comments regarding power supply stuff, and special thanks to quest_for_silence for the detailed analysis. So, now I see that the conversion between AC and DC watts is extremely straightforward -- just different by the factor of efficiency. I was thinking there was somethi...

jhhoffma and HFat, why is it that you guys think my PSU is less efficient than the one used in the SPCR review? It looks to me that they would be either identical or mine might even be marginally better. They're both rated at 80plus bronze, but mine is slightly lower wattage. (380W vs. 400W) Assumin...

Re: Asus E35M1-M Pro: AMD Fusion Motherboard

Yeah, we are talking about digital. At least I am. I wouldn't want to use old-school VGA. Anyway, after much debate on another forum (link), I am thinking the 1080p limit must be a mistake by ASUS. Check out this board, for instance: E35M1-I DELUXE (link). It's very similar, but the specs for DVI st...

Re: Asus E35M1-M Pro: AMD Fusion Motherboard

Ok new question. (At least, I think; not 100% sure if anyone brought this up yet or not) What is the deal with the display limitations on this motherboard? The official ASUS specs list that both the DVI port and the HDMI port support a maximum of 1920x1080 resolution. What the hell? What is the reas...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO

Hmm good question. I am interested too. But the boards aren't exactly comparable. The DH57JG is mini-ITX, compared to the substantially more components and slots featured on both of these m-ATX boards in this review. That will probably make some difference of a few Watts or more. Question is how muc...

mobile platforms are impressive indeed, one of the advantages of buying a nettop is that it will most likely use less power than a custom mitx build. Yes, and I don't get it: how do they do it?? 1) 2.5" drives may have lower vibration, but at this point, not lower noise. The latest WD Greens are amazing in both aspects. 2) 2.5" drives are not as durable as 3.5" ones in 24/7 operation, as they are designed for use in laptops where start/stop is much more common. 3) higher density in the 3.5...

Are there any reviews of newer laptop drives in the works?
