I ended up getting the Noctua NF-B9 - it was the only one that was available in Perth, and also the cheapest at A$19. I'd have preferred the Nexus or one of the Scythes, but paying $20 for postage of a single item from the Eastern States was just silly. I've now got almost all the components for my ...

There's a good and very thorough article about DDR 3 speeds and memory scaling at Anandtech http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=3589 . From your gaming point of view it does appear that there are some advantages to higher speed ram with tight latencies, mainly in getting somewhat increase...

BTW- the aussie mens Mogul guys is a spammer/maleware  Yep - Dale Begg-Smith. I thought it was really funny how the TV coverage here refers to him as "an internet millionaire" while carefully never mentioning how he makes his millions. His business has been linked to the distribution of softw...

Can you get NoiseBlocker fans in Australia? I know FrozenCPU carries them, and they say they ship to Australia. SPCR said the 92mm XE1 sounds as good as the Nexus 92mm fan, and after getting my M12-S2, I'd believe it. :D http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8405/fan-522/Noiseblocker_NB-BlackSilentFan_...

Can't help you I'm afraid, but it looks like the coverage your getting is the same sort of dreck being dished up to us here in Australia on commercial TV. 5 minutes of moguls, then a 5 minute segment on how good the shopping is at the ski village. Then an ad break, and back for a 5 minute segment by...

Weirdly, the Noctua is cheaper than any of the Scythes here in Australia. It's A$19 and available here in Perth at MSY, as opposed to the 2000rpm S-Flex at A$27.50 at PCCaseGear where I'll be buying a bunch of other stuff at the same time, so freight shouldn't be too bad. If I want to buy the 1500rp...

Quiet 92mm case fan? Help please
I need a quiet 92mm fan for the front of the Antec Solo I'm buying. None of the SPCR-recommended fans are available in Australia. The two likeliest options easily available to me are the Scythe S-FLEX SFF92C (2000RPM) or the Noctua NF-B9 (1600RPM). I'd be using a fan controller to undervolt it, whic...

Have you made up your mind yet? Followed this thread for a while now :) Yes, I'm going with the Solo, and the Seasonic X-650 PSU (mdrumt: it's fully modular :D). Now I've just got to work out where to buy all the gear to get the best deal. Rucker: thanks for that info - good to know your temps espe...

Thanks for that advice, mdrumt - very useful to hear your view on the benefits of the Solo vs the P180, since you've used both. I think if I go for the Solo I can take the money I've saved and get a fan controller so I can easily bump up the fan speeds if I'm gaming (not that I game much, but it wou...

Scythe Slipstreams -are they open or closed corners?
Can someone confirm for me whether the Scythe slipstream fans have open or closed corners? The SY1225SL12L 800RPM model. I have to order these sight unseen, and I don't know what type of silicone mounting absorbers to buy to mount them. And speaking of silicone mounts, which of these mounts on this ...

Thanks for that info JamieG - I see the problem. Am I wrong in thinking that the PSU could be mounted upside down, with the fan facing upwards? Then (depending on how much room there is between the PSU and the top of the case) it might give better airflow than with it mounted normally, since I'm pla...

depending on how you design the duct, you could end up with frictional losses that require the power supply fan to turn harder, which would end up putting more noise out the back of the power supply. the front intake is located at the bottom of the case, so the duct would have to navigate around th...

Personally I think the major limitation of Solo is that its PSU is on the top and doesn't have a seperate air flow for PSU (otherwise it will be perfect to me), while recent cases prefer to place the PSU to the bottom and breath fresh air from the bottom. If we are going to build an extremely quiet...

You wont be needing a 7200 drive for samples, I've used my Seagate LP for this purpose and i notice no difference at all compared to my 7200 RPM 3200AAKS which I previously used. I use Superior drummer 2.0, Guitarrig and East West Orchestral so I doubt you'll gonna need one. I'm just basing this on...

I'd love to see a really well-designed and independent scientific study of this issue, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen - hugely expensive and difficult to set up, with some enormous vested interests working against it. In the mean time I'll take my chances. I envy Canada and the UK (myself...

Also you can't mount that PSU in Solo because it is ridiculously big, you have to go with P183 if you decide for that PSU. Also don't forget the obvious if you really want it dead quiet, suspend slow spinning mechanical hardrives in dampening boxes, cut out fan grills and get a tidy cable managemen...

Why buy a 850W power supply? Ridiculous. If you have money you have to spend then buy a Seasonic X-series or Enermax Modu87+. Yes, I agree that 850W is insanely more power than I need. The only reason I chose the CP-850 is that it has incredibly low noise levels when in a P183 - since this is for a...

Antec Solo vs Antec P183 for DAW - help please

Wait...why not just buy a nice PWM fan for the CPU? Why fuss around trying to get a 3pin fan to work on the PWM header? With a 4pin, PWM fan, it will just be plug and play...this is how it is designed to work. I'm sure some mobo's will let you change how the header operates, but why complicate thin...
