What is a soft material that conducts heat well?

TL;DR - the title. I need to get some material that is both soft (squeezable) and conducts heat as well as possible. Any advice on what it could be? Longer story - my trusty old laptop (Dell XPS M1330) is still running strong and I like it. But one component is showing age - the cooling... umm... co...

Re: What are good materials for HDD elastic suspension?

Well, yes, of course, and I have something similar. The question is - how long does it last? Does the cord not slacken or become brittle with age and heat? How often do you need to replace them?

What are good materials for HDD elastic suspension?

A week ago I finally performed elastic suspension on both my (old and noisy) HDDs. Quite happy about it, but I used standard rubbers from a sewing shop, and my wife already expressed concern about the longevity of the elastic under such heated conditions. Reading around here I see that her intuition...

My daughter will be 1 year old in two weeks. The fancier the cupboard, the more she will want to explore it. And I've done the power/reset button trick you mentioned already. That doesn't work so well, because the power button on this case is a bit sticky and she likes to hold it down anyway. :P But...

Well, Antec 300 looks like it is. :P Btw - here are the pics you asked for. Note that I don't have any spare time to do modding work, but perhaps you notice something simple that can be improved already. As long as we're at it - maybe you also have some ideas on how to protect the powerbutton/resetb...

The lancool is still twice as expensive as Antec 300. Though looks better too. :P

Oh, yeah, forgot to say - I'm from Latvia, so USA deals don't apply, but we can still get most stuff here, so don't worry about that.

Everything's noisy... The HDDs are pretty noisy by default (loud spinning and seeking), so I definitely want something with rubber fastenings. VGA gets extremely noisy when I run a game (naturally, I like to run them at max graphics beauty). No idea about the CPU, those two drown it out, but probabl...

Can anyone recommend a budget (cheap) silent case?

My current case is something I fished out of a corporate dumpster 7 years ago. It was for free, and it has served me well over the years, but I'm starting to feel that it's not up to the task anymore. I recently upgraded the innards of the computer, and the modern components are getting bigger and b...

Re: heat and the N270

Is this what you meant by performance effects? As far as errors, it is stable when using the mprime burn-in. I just remember an ancient video by Tom's Hardware. It was back in the days when the first AMD Athlons came out and they were hot as hell. In that video when the heatsink was removed from CP...

Wow, that sounds pretty hot! I didn't imagine it could be that hot just doing nothing. :P Still, if it's within the acceptable range, I guess it's fine. I wonder though - does it affect performance in any noticeable way? Anyway, it's pretty clear that whatever OS I put on it (probably some Linux dis...

Oh, this is just brilliant! The case costs $40, but to get it to my home (Latvia, eastern Europe) it will cost me no less than $140 in shipping! :P Guess I'll have to seek some local redistributors. ebay.de seems to have something already cheaper, but still pretty expensive. Or maybe I'll have to tr...

Mmmm, the D510M0 indeed looks like a treat. And even cheaper than the D945GSEJT. However it lacks the internal power supply, which makes the whole thing more expensive again. Lots more, as the ITX power supplies that I can find are pretty expensive. Plus, I haven't seen any fanless ITX power supplie...

Musings about a fanless PC - will this work?

For a while now I've been toying with the idea of making a totally fanless PC which will serve as a NAS/home-server. The idea is that I'd like it to be as quiet as physically possible and small too. So that I can shove it under the bed and forget that it's there . Originally I was thinking about an...

My laptop has a Western Digital Scorpio Black and it's practically inaudiable, despite being a 7200rpm. I see that this series is SATA-only, but I'd look in this direction.

I somehow doubt that 0.15V will make a noticeable difference in your carbon footprint, even in long term. If you want to spare power, start with the power-hungry devices like CPU, VGA or HDD. So I'd go with the one that has the better stats/benchmarks/price, and not worry about the voltage. OK, mayb...

Veselin Tasev - Trance Culture 080 (TOP 100 of 2009). It's an 8-hour long trance mix of best songs of 2009. Beautiful. :)
