Re: Windows Homegroup problem

Check to make sure that you are using Homegroup to manage permissions. Go to Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings > Home or Work > Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections.

If that fails, try the Homegroup troubleshooter.

Re: Which GTX560 Ti is the most quiet?

Is it hard to flash the BIOS on the Gigabyte card? I have the Gigabyte GTX560 Ti non-OC, and the minimum fan speed isn't low enough for me (I think it's set to 40%). To answer the OP - I have the dual-fan version: it's quiet at idle (barely audible), but I can definitely single out the fan noise out...

Re: My GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 won't drop the voltage at idle

Have you tried updating your BIOS? I got the exact same board from probably the same Microcenter deal as you, and I have no problems with the voltage on the F7 BIOS. Turbo mode off, Stock / Normal voltages, 42x multiplier. I do have S3 sleep / standby issues, but it seems a lot of Z68 motherboards a...

Thanks for the heads up, I missed out on the BF deal. I bought a 3.5mm audio splitter cable for my filler, total ended up being $56.38 after tax.

I can't say for the first part (though I'm sure you can control the fan speed via MSI Afterburner software), but you can fit a dual-slot video card in that case:

What's your budget for the case? The design of Silverstone's SG07 really fits your description (mini-ITX, supports long video cards, comes with large power supply), currently $169.99 AR from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Mini-ITX-Mini-DTX-Certified-SG07B/dp/B003V8ATLS If you want to go m...

Re: htpc suspend problems

Not true, I use my USB keyboard or mouse to wake up my computer every day, and they're not lit up all the time. If you say it's fine while not overclocked, then either you have things clocked too high, or you're not supplying enough voltage. You can also try turning off USB selective suspending unde...

Which operating system are you using? In Windows, you can allow devices to wake the computer in the Device Manager. See attached.

And what you described sounds like S3 sleep, not hibernation.

Re: Dead-silent Atom-based hosts?

The Shuttle definitely does not have a fan. I just assembled one for my cousin, and if you add a SSD, it shouldn't generate any noise at all. It's awesome for what it'll be doing (Skype, web browsing), but I don't know if I'd do any software development on it (test of patience, I guess). Atoms are n...

Not a fan of side vents either, but I "fixed" it on my cousin's 300 by swapping the side panels so that the vent is behind the motherboard. No more problems with sound leakage and incorrect airflow.

My three hard drives idle at most 37C. They did get very hot when I tried to use a Swiffer cloth for a filter - reduced the airflow way too much. Removed the cloth, been getting great temperatures since.

Works in reverse as well: power supplies with 24-pin cables can be plugged into motherboards with 20-pin as long as you leave the four side pins outside the plug. It'll only fit in perfectly one way, so make sure you don't jam it in!

Any program can take advantage of any video card (as long as they code it in, which not many companies do), but programs written in CUDA can only be rendered on Nvidia cards, and since CUDA has been out much longer than ATI's Stream, there are a few more applications written for it. An example would...

I know for sure on my friend's P55-UD3R, there is a "Stock" option. Just leave it at that, or around 1.15V, I think. Just need to specify a voltage, doesn't really matter what it is at this point.

I hate Gigabyte motherboards for doing this, but "Auto" voltages is not the same as "Stock" voltages. They will dynamically change the voltages to "stabilize" the processor. Apparently they thought making my Q6600 reach 100C is the way to do it. Check all your voltages and change it to "Stock" if yo...

Run CPU-Z and make sure your RAM is running dual-channel.
