Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

First question here is are you willing to give up a little performance for silence? (Or are you willing to pay a ton of money to not give that up...) Hello everyone, I'll start by saying I'm a complete novice and this upgrade is long overdue, so I am pretty clueless. I'm far from finished outlining ...

Re: Quiet PSU Dilemma: Buy one and change the fan, or spend

You will want a name-brand power supply in the future, but save up and get something really silent. About double what you are looking to spend will get a no-noise supply (no fan at sub-200-watt loads). I expect that your system will draw under 200 watts of power under normal use as a HTPC. As power ...

Re: Quiet PSU Dilemma: Buy one and change the fan, or spend

A) do I spend slightly less on a PSU and change the fan; I did this on my gaming rig a couple of years ago (Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W, swapped the fan for what I believe to be a Noctua NF-S12 if my memory serves me correctly) and it's still going strong... It's incredibly quiet. B) Spend more...

Re: 10 hard drives and an Atom

I'm toying with the idea of making a server from all the old drives I've accumulated. All of them are old IDE drives without a staggered spinup option. I hate to shoot you down here, but this is a bad idea. I bet your many old drives are less then 320 gigabytes each. Even if a couple of drives are ...

NZXT Whisper !

So I have a 6x500GB RAID0 array (for scratch disks) and 2x2TB RAID1 (for NAS) and also an old WD Raptor150 as system drive. Cooling is supplied by a couple of Nexus 120mm fans and a Scythe Mugen CPU cooler. It's currently an Intel µATX motherboard with a Core i5-760 CPU and 16GB RAM running headles...

They make them now! Would these work?

I hate to bring a post back from the dead, but this thread comes up at the top when trying to find info about fan mufflers. I don't like to "mod" my parts, due to the PITA of getting a good clean look. I have a couple of good power supplies, one that I want to quiet is the OCZ gameXstream 700. I can...

What about MAGNITUDE of the forces?

The force of hot air rising is really low/weak compared to the force of a fan blowing. I don't think that these damping vents should be dismissed because they aim "hot" air down. (This is not gas-burner hot, just 35C exhaust in a room that is 25C.)

Anyone tried an AD-04B or a AD-05B ?

Lian Li is trying to tackle the problem areas that make case damping so hard: the power supply and vent holes. They have two products, one for the power supply, the AD-05B, and another for the 120 mm vent fan (AD-04B). I posted some pics of them and a poll in "Power Supplies" , but wanted to get the...

That is normal...

If you read almost any warranty, you will see that they can send you the same item, or a better item. They can also send you any type of working equipment, even used& returned stuff.

iPad (vee wun) is for the iTools only

Ultimately though I think this device is about user-interface and content. [...] If they can sew up good content and make it as easy to buy as iTunes/App Store they could have a real winner on their hands. Everyone loves a lock-in after all :) Look at the device + content as a package, not just the...

I have the SS4200

The Intel SS4200 is incredible if you want a home NAS. It is under $200 and is completely silent (if it is in the next room). It is rather quiet if it is in the same room. The unit has two 70mm fans. They spin up at full speed, and then are thermally-controlled. The are not loud, even under load. Wi...

Replace the fan, keep the heatsink?

Today my shiny new Sapphire 5750 Vapor-X is arrived, it work, but the fan is fixed at 40%, no way to change the speed setting with catalyst 9.12 and 10.1 under Win7 HP 64bit. Temperatures are ok, gaming is ok, too. But the fan setting don't work. Suggestions? The fastest thing to do is to take the ...

Noctua NH-C12P - if you want to know MORE

The retail Intel heatsink is extremely inefficient in the heat conducting department. That is why I have the NH-C12P, it was $65, but it was worth it. I could not find a review here, so I thought that I would post that I have one if people want measurements or comments. Mine has the stock 120mm fan,...

I'd go with Sapphire, in fact I did. It's a better card. The way I see it I can fit some MASSIVE cooler array designed for a 58xx series card later, [...] That will not work without a modification to the cooler array (as you see elsewhere in the thread). As others have pointed out, the 57XX cards h...
