Re: Quiet 4K Gaming PC Build Guide

Thank you for this interesting build. I haven't found the idle power draw for this setup - did I miss that? Maybe you could post it here.

There are more reviews on the Thermolab site and most of them actually show a benefit in cooling (not just db), although like ces said, those db ratings are usually for the birds. Does anyone know where to get those 2010 editions?

FYI, there seems to be a new version, the BADA 2010 - I am in the market for one as well, and it seems like that edition is both cheaper and better (by about 1-2 degrees) - I just can't figure out how to get one, as it seems it's only been released in Korea so far. @ces, do you have any info on that?

Hi, Are you listening to them installed or in the free air? If they making noise while installed, it may be that the grills are causing the noise? I was listening to the fans inside the case, attached using the rubber pins - you are right, it could be odd turbulence, although it would seem strange ...

Nexus "Real Silent" not so silent...

Hi, I am running a setup using the Silverstone LC17 - it comes with 2 Silverstone-branded 80mm exhaust fans. Now, I was looking for alternatives to make them quieter, and from this fan roundup I chose the Nexus Real Silent Case Fan SP802512L. For some reason though, I cannot reproduce the encouragin...

Hi, great build and detailed outline - I just recently put together my rig and it's painful to keep things tidy and take photos while working on it, so kudos to you. ;) One thing I would have probably done differently: I know the Scorpios are pretty quiet, but you could have easily suspended it in t...

Regarding that Seagate drive, I would probably recommend against it. Seagates at 7200rpms are quite loud and tend to get warm. I know this is a bit odd and subjective, but: I had 3 Seagates fail within the last 9 months (those were external 7200rpms) and while the customer support is great I just ca...

Thanks for your help, everyone. I will stick to what I have at this time but keep a lookout for that BADA - if I ever find it locally I would probably try to upgrade this machine. I'll try to post my power consumption data later today.

Thanks for all the input. @ces: when you say t is the most cooling you can get per cubic inch. That should take your temps to only a few degrees above what the temps are in your case. Do you mean that under full load temps will only be slightly above my current idle temps? Or would temps in general ...

Hi b_rubenstein - thank you for your input. Intel lists a maximum operating temperature of only 72.6 degrees Celsius for this chip: does this limit of 70 you mentioned still apply here? I guess there is not that much to gain in terms of CPU cooling unless I shell out >50 Euros for a better heatsink....

i3-530 @ 2,93Ghz - are my temperatures too high?

Hi everyone, I finally went ahead and built my own HTPC using a Silverstone LC-17 enclosure. I'll be happy to show some more photos as well as power consumption data but I am not sure I'm done yet: I would like to know whether people could tell me about the temperatures I should be getting with my p...

Nice build! One question: did you somehow attach the giant heatsink to anything or is it only held by the thumbscrews & backplate? Since those things weigh close to 1kg I was always wondering if a vertical build would work at all.

Thank you. :)
