Re: EVGA Classified SR-2 Case (designed not to be too loud)

Thanks guys!

With room for four loops, its not to hard to imagine filling many of the 5.25-inch bays with reservoirs, pumps and extra power supplies.

Yes, SR-2 rigs typically draw enormous amounts of power!

EVGA Classified SR-2 Case (designed not to be too loud)

My latest commissioned build was for an oak and aluminum case to house a water cooled EVGA SR-2 rig. Even though the case will eventually hold four 140x4 radiators my client and I designed it to be as quiet as possible via the solid case doors that block the direct sound path from all of the case an...

If I had my way I'd have a wide, very shallow desktop ATX case. Tall enough to house top end graphics cards, and with the optical / HDDs mounted beside the mobo instead of in front. http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/Photos/WoodenSFF-33La.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww15...

Yes, the wife (Wife-Interpreted Feeling Element) is important. Understood, but usually the color, texture and finish of a wooden case bowls 'em over. hehe http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/Photos/DSC_1025-1.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/Photos/CherrySFF2-...

@ MikeC - I'm learning that it is very difficult for me to design a true SFF case because I can't not incorporate extra space around the PSU and behind the mother board tray for wire management, etc., but here's a traditionally shaped mini-tower case: http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotsw...

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. What I came up with so far is a simple 31L SFF case that should be wicked quiet. Its features include: 3/4-inch thick wood panels .10-inch thick aluminum sheet Dual 120mm front intake fans fed by a bottom air duct Hard/SSD drives are mounted on the th...

What size case do you prefer?

I've been thinking about designing a wooden case for this community and was wondering what size case do you prefer to house your silent rig?

~El~Jefe~ wrote:Doesnt wood Resonate?
There's not enough energy generated by PC components to create resonance in a wooden PC case, especially when its constructed from solid 1/2-inch oak i.e. lots of mass. hehe

I wish there was a whole kit to cut, crimp, and do all the molex from the ground up. Warranties are for wusses.

hm looks like it is EU only.
They ship worldwide as explained here.

Wooden cases share many of the attributes you listed for acrylic cases.

I've designed a case that has an optional feature to blow cool air onto the video card area via a bottom fed air duct (the case has a solid side panel): http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/Custom%20Case%20for%20EVGA%20Dual-Socket%20Board/VorelkCase4b.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/a...

The Buckeye people quoted me roughly $300 for a 14x12x7 inch case. And that included a motherboard tray, 140mm cut outs, power switch, etc. I bet? hehe The corner extrusions are insanely expensive, the Type35 is $50.25 per foot. :x I could mill a 1-inch square bar for waaaay less. I'm sure I could ...

If you were using 2.5mm solid aluminum panels, what would you be using to join the panels at edges and corners? Me? I'd use .125 x .5 angles in the corners and to the thicken edges, .185 x .5 flat bar. All tapped and bolted together with #6-32 socket cap screws. If looks were important, I'd probabl...

If it was me I'd ditch the side and PSU holes; add an exhaust fan on the back; mount the heatsink/radiator on one of the front intake fans; and use solid .10-inch thick aluminum.

You can fabricate your own 5.25-inch drive rails out of aluminum and a standard woodworking router fitted with an end mill. http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/EVGA%20Classified%20SR-2%20Case%20Build/RoutingSlots.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Spotswood_/EVGA%20Classifi...
