Re: Riser for Streacom FC5 EVO?

Well, I decided to give up on finding a fixed right angle riser that would work. Too many dimensional variables, and long lead times on parts shipped from china if they don't fit. I don't want this project to last until the end of time. I went ahead and ordered a sintech 5cm (~2") flexible riser as ...

Riser for Streacom FC5 EVO?

Hey everyone, I have just ordered a Streacom FC5WS Evo for as a new case for my HTCP. It was a little expensive, but having a completely fanless case in my entertainment center is a must. Does anyone have any experience with this case? Unfortunately, in my setup I absolutely need a Nvidia GPU. (For ...

Re: PicoPSU Reliability

Interesting. Intel's spec for the G4500 is a TDP of 51w. And the slower, less capable G4400 is specced as 54W ... don't trust Intel, ever (or NVidia, Microsoft, AMD, IBM, Apple, Google, Amazon... ). Well, as any good overclocker knows, performance/clock speed and heat output/power usage a...

Re: PicoPSU Reliability

The 35W TDP of the 4570T was a huge draw to me. The g4500 is higher. (Over 50?) I'd say rather unlikely . What it really came down to for me was the fact that I got a really good open box deal on a Supermicro LGA1150 mini server motherboard. That's right. I recall that when they launched the...

Re: PicoPSU Reliability

Side question, slightly OT: which are the merits of such a T-SKU, if run with HT disabled, over a G4500? Well, that depends really. Turbocore is a good feature which the g4500 lacks, but then again the g4500 clocks higher in the first place so it may not make much of a difference. The 35W TDP of th...

Re: PicoPSU Reliability

Thanks guys. This is great info! Anyone know what kind of power use I'll see at the Wal with a 35W tdp dual core Haswell chip with one of these Pico PSU's? I've got an i5-4570T coming next week, probably going to disable HT to save power, as I don't need it. Going barebones with 2x1GB 1.35v SODIMM's...

Re: PicoPSU Reliability

Note that PSUs vary in their susceptibility to power transients. A PSU that dies after living on a circuit prone to power disruptions isn't necessarily unreliable ... just picky about the conditions in which it's run. My Picos run off a UPS with AVR and pure sine wave output, which might be related...

How do you guys feel now a few years later? My picoPSU 150XT + 150W brick still running fine after 3 years, no issues, now powering an i7 setup with 50%-100% load 24/7. Thank you! That is good to know. I had heard some comments on another forum that the Pico PSU's were failure prone, and tended to ...

Re: Low Power Video Card for Headless Server

You can go for the mobos that have built in basic GPU like most of the server grade mobos from Supermicro, Tyan, etc. Depending on your needs you could go for something really basic like Super Micro X7SPA-H Motherboard with atom dual core cpu, 6 sata ports or if you need something more powerful lik...

Low Power Video Card for Headless Server

So I have a motherboard and CPU in mind for my server. While the server is going to be headless (no monitor) for some reason PC's still need a video card in order to pass POST. The motherboard I plan on using does not have on board video, so I'll need to install something in one of the slots. I want...

Maingear EPIC 180 (180mm sealed water cooler): My experience

I recently found out about the MainGear EPIC 180. It is a sealed water cooler made by CoolIT and sold exclusively by MainGear (a custom computer builder in the U.S.). Originally their intent was to only include it in their high end Shift systems. I emailed them to check if they were willing to sell ...

Make 3 pin case fans obey 4 pin PWM signals?

Is there any way to do this? Ideally I'm looking for some sort of adapter that does the following: 4 pin PWM signal ---> Adapter (turns high/low PWM signal into high/low voltage --> 3 pin case fan. Problem is as follows. I have a rather unusual (and amazing) 180mm sealed water cooling unit (like Cor...

Re: Antec NSK1300 with PW-200-V DC-DC and Akasa Evo-120

Various threads (e.g. 28246 , 29018 ) have discussed modding the Dell 150W or 220W AC/DC adapters for use with DC/DC desktops. I'd rather not burn my house down, so I opened my brick and traced out enough of the DC end of the circuit to convince myself that the adapter does work as simply as the va...

On the quiet front with watercooling one of the huge benefits is that you can move the noisy offenders out of earshot. if I had more space I'd just get a 60 gallon rain barrel as a reservoir, a submersible pump and a couple of big honking old cast iron radiators at ~60EDR each. according to my calcu...

Ahh, my thought was that it might have been a 32bit/64bit thing, but thats apparently not it (I use 64bit Ubuntu, and we should be on the same Kernel in that case...)

Maybe its a GDM not playing nice with the ATI drivers issue?

I'm WAY happier now that I've got an ATI card in there. Maybe some games are going to be unstable under wine, but I'm fine with dual-booting for windows games. This is indirect support to the 5750 over the 9800GT. For my HTPC-enclosed PC used by one of my kids, I had put the MSI custom-cooler 9800GT in there. For intense gaming, it shut down the PC as my case with slow fans couldn't get rid of the heat generated. I switched to the 4770 (not 5750, but both...
