I finally got around to trying my C2D E6750 stock heatsink with a Yate Loon low speed 120mm fan on it. The temps were significantly lower than the stock fan, and it was much quieter at high load. Looks like I'll be doing this with my i3!

How would you mount a standard fan on a standard Intel HS? In my case it'll be mounted a few mm above it, on the inside of the side door of the (very small) case (note that it would also be pulling in fresh air from outside the case). But you could do it any number of ways, probably even with zip t...

How about when at 100% load? My Core 2 Duo's stock cooler is adequately quiet at idle, but terribly loud at its highest speed. That's the main thing I'd like to avoid. Any thoughts on taking the fan out of the stock cooler and strapping a Nexus Real Silent 120mm on top? Would it be awesome or would ...

Here is some independent verification: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2072209 I actually stumbled into this SPCR thread after noticing how well the Sanyo Denki fan scored in the Anandtech thread, and did a google search for it, bringing me here. Relevant stats from that benchmark: Sany...

I've googled as much as I can and it seems that it'll probably be sufficient, but it wasn't completely clear.

It conditions the CD fed into it. The Pico just passes on that power. Yeah, I read about that. It sounds nice, but a bit theoretical. The PicoPSU has been quite popular for some time now, and as far as I know its reputation hasn't been tarnished by reports of frying computers. Winmate can be used w...

Hm, the Winmate seems to be a bit more efficient at idle power levels, but it's larger and I'd have to figure out where/how to mount it. I really like the tinyness and self-contained nature of the PicoPSU. Are there more compelling reasons to use the Winmate instead?

Can a PicoPSU handle this?

I'd like to use a PicoPSU 150 (with 150w brick) to power the following: Core i3 530/540 H55 mATX motherboard (either ASRock H55M Pro or Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3, not sure yet) 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3, probably 1.35v Intel SSD Random 3.5" 7200RPM HDD Slim DVD burner Do you think it'll be sufficient? I have som...
