Re: HP's new Neo (12W TDP) based microserver (with HW decodi

Ah, I see what you mean regarding ECC. I suppose if a stick has gone bad, ECC won't be enough to prevent crashes, but still it would be good to be alerted if errors become frequent. I haven't decided on an OS yet, but people have been running anything from Windows 2008R2, to Linux or Solaris/Nexenta...

Re: HP's new Neo (12W TDP) based microserver (with HW decodi

HFat, thanks for the reply. ECC is supported by the chipset, so no drivers are needed as long as you have ECC capable memory installed. I wanted to have ECC, because I will probably be running Linux or Solaris on ZFS (Solaris would require another box to take care of media playback ). ECC is strongl...

Re: HP's new Neo (12W TDP) based microserver (with HW decodi

I also got one, because ECC memory support is simply impossible to get elsewhere in a package this small. But I must concur with HFat, this thing is ridiculously loud. I'd ordered a Scythe S-Flex to replace the system fan, but unfortunately the system requires a fan to be installed using a 4-pin con...

Re: HFX Micro upgrade?

The heatpipes are not the issue, unfortunately. An 8MM pipe can move up to 35W, approximately. However, moving that power to the heatsinks is only relevant if the heatsinks can dissipate it. And I suspect that heatsink will do a poor job of it, if it's capable at all. Thanks for the clarification, ...

Re: HFX Micro upgrade?

Borg is simply the name HFX give to their heatpipe coolers, so you can get a new version only through them. However, you must heed the caution about what kind of power draw can be supported; HFX specify 20 or 25W (both figures appear) as the max. That's higher than what any mainstream CPU (other tha...

mCubed HFX Classic vs Silverstone GD04, if not using SSD?

Hi everyone, I have wanted to build a media player/server for some time but I've got somewhat lost as to what matters more for a quiet setup so I would appreciate some comments and help. I'm looking to setup a system around the Intel DH55TC motherboard with an i3 530 CPU and no additional graphics c...

That is a very nice looking case. What temperature does your CPU idle at? Do you have any idea how power hungry a system you could go with?
