Re: Please Critique My Build List
Just finished the build today. I ended up going with the Asrock AB350M Pro4 motherboard and the MSI 1050 Ti Gaming X graphics card. A few notes about the build: -The Define R5 is a very nice case overall. The only two nitpicks I have are the latching mechanism for the side panel (a bit of a pain to ...

Re: Please Critique My Build List
Thanks for the advice. The Scythe cooler you posted is more expensive in Canada than the Noctua, so I'm going to stick with the Noctua. How can I tell how old the Windows 10 install media is? I'm planning on getting the retail version on USB. Will it be marked on the package/thumb drive? I may just ...

Re: Please Critique My Build List
I have a few reasons for going with the R5. First is the 140mm fans. I don't believe the Define C supports a 140mm fan in the rear (only the front). Also the Define C doesn't have the built in fan controller like the R5 does. Finally, the Define C doesn't have any spots for optical drive bays. I'm g...

Please Critique My Build List
Hi Everyone! I'm getting ready for a new build, and after quite a bit of research I think I'm close to finalizing my build. PC will be used for video encoding/transcoding, perhaps some gaming (very casual gaming though), video playback etc. The video encoding/transcoding will be the heavy duty task....

Re: Where to buy Scythe Coolers in Canada? Other cooler opti
Ryzen has been selling really well, and NCIX has always carry noctua, even linus had some fans made for him, so im guessing noctua has good relations with NCIX, i bet they have stock AM4 or can get some pretty fast. Either way noctua service is top notch, i spoke to CM and told them one of my Noctu...

Re: Where to buy Scythe Coolers in Canada? Other cooler opti
Hi Abula. Do you think I should just hold off for a few months to see if any better AM4 coolers become available? I've had this computer for 8 years, so a few more months won't kill me. I did post a message on the NCIX forum asking about the AM4 mount for the Noctua cooler, so I'll see what they say...

Re: Where to buy Scythe Coolers in Canada? Other cooler opti
Hi Steve, thanks for the advice! I just read through the SPCR reviews of those 3 and I'm not sure if there is one that could be considered noticeably better than the others. At low fan speed, all 3 seem like they would essentially be inaudible? Especially so when enclosed in a case like the Fractal ...

Where to buy Scythe Coolers in Canada? Other cooler options?
I've been thinking of building a new system (my current one is from 2009). It looks like Scythe is still considered one of the best on SPCR (my current build is using a Mugen 2). Looking at either the Scythe Kotetsu or Ninja 4. However, these coolers don't seem readily available in Canada. NCIX does...

Re: UPS For Seasonic X-650
My comp was off each time the power was knocked out, but the X hasn't flinched from being fed whatever the APC gave it until I shut it off too. Until the battery kicks in, a UPS will just be providing current from the utility power (with possibly some power conditioning depending on the UPS). The w...

Re: UPS For Seasonic X-650
I e-mailed Seasonic about this, and there reply was "I would recommend APC battery backup for you." and then there was a link to Newegg for all of the APC UPS units. They didn't even address the question I asked. I e-mailed them back asking the question again, but I'm not expecting much after their ...

UPS For Seasonic X-650
Does anyone know if the Seasonic X-650 requires a UPS that outputs a pure sinewave? There was some debate in an earlier thread about the X-650, but it doesn't look like anything was ever concluded. Pure sinewave UPS's are a lot more expensive than a regular one, so if I can get away with a more basi...

From what I understand, you HAVE to run WDIdle from a bootable CD (or USB drive). You can't run it within Windows. Running WDIdle is a one time thing, unless you want to change the setting again. You can do 3 things with WDIdle: 1) Get the current intellipark park. 2) Set the intellipark time (I thi...

Also, do you remember what you entered in WDidle in order to disable Intellipark? Seems a lot of people have gotten no response from the drive or setting it has gotten no effect. But from your posting it sounds like you've confirmed that disabling Intelliseek actually works. It took me a few tries ...

Alright, after some research I have a plan now: -Use 2 Nexus 120mm real silent fans in push/pull on the Mugen 2 -Connect them to the CPU fan header, and Sys fan header (both are controllable) -Use Speedfan to handle control of the fans -Planning on the basic 3 pin fans, I've heard mixed reviews on t...

Is this the one you are referring to http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/0 ... etail.html ?
If so, I think it only fits 120mm holes (the Antec Fusion Max has 140MM mounting holes I believe).

Not possible to answer fully as the details of the system are missing... but if you assemble a system sensibly, your VRMs will be fine. The system will probably end up being outmoded before being damaged or worn out by VRMs overheating. Full specs of system: -Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H -4GB DDR2 RAM ...

Thanks for the help guys. Remember that a heatsink is needed to keep a component within its specified operating temperature. There is no point in adding heatsinks unless they are in fact needed. SPCR did a review of a Gigabyte motherboard in the same series/class as the one I have ( http://www.silen...

Where are the VRM's on my motherboard?
Hello, I recently got a new system with a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard, and it doesn't appear to have any heatsinks on the VRM's. So I've decided to add some heatsinks to them (such as the Swiftech MC14). However, I'm not sure what "exactly" the VRM's look like. I did a bit of Googling, but ...

Recommendations for New Build - Ideas Welcome
Hi Everyone, It's been a few years since I built a new PC (current system is an Athlon64 3000+), so any help or insight would be appreciated. This is going to be a multi purpose system: HTPC, PVR recording, and general use. Silence and expandability are what I'm after. Here's my current part list: C...

HTPC Cases with 120mm fans?
Hi Everyone, I'm looking to get a quiet/silent HTPC case and would like to find one that uses 120mm fans. I've found a few: -Silverstone GD04 -Silverstone GD05 -Antec Fusion series My budget is around $150. I like the GD05 the most out of the cases I listed above, the two big drawbacks for me are th...
